Brine shrimps ( spp.) are aquatic crustaceans known as important intermediate hosts for a wide range of helminth species. From 2011 to 2021, 4,347 individuals of brine shrimp were collected for this study, investigating the diversity and infection rates of helminth species in spp.

Understanding the composition of complex Escherichia coli populations from the environment is necessary for identifying strategies to reduce the impacts of fecal contamination and protect public health. Metabarcoding targeting the hypervariable gene gnd was used to reveal the complex population diversity of E. coli and phenotypically indistinct Escherichia species in water, soil, sediment, aquatic biofilm, and fecal samples from native forest and pastoral sites.

During a survey on the biodiversity of oomycetes in aquatic environments in northwest Iran (East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan provinces), three Pythium and four Globisporangium isolates were recovered from agricultural water pools and irrigation canals, respectively. Through a polyphasic approach combining morphology and phylogenetic analysis using the nuclear rDNA ITS1-5.8 S-ITS2 (ITS) and partial sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I and II (COX1 and COX2), three novel species were identified namely Globisporangium tabrizense sp.

Hot water systems are the most frequent environment associated with the prevalence and growth of opportunistic premise plumbing pathogens (OPPPs). Previous studies identified water heaters as a source of waterborne diseases and concluded that design variables may contribute to their prevalence. A multifaceted approach was used to investigate the vertical stratification of the microbiome and selected OPPPs in an electric water heater tank connected to a home plumbing system simulator.
