The synthesis of a small library of -Boc- or -Fmoc-protected l-phenylalanines carrying methyl groups at positions 2 and 6 and diverse functionalities at position 4 has been achieved. The approach, which took advantage of a Pd-catalyzed directed C-H dimethylation of picolinamide derivatives, allowed the electronic and steric properties of the resulting amino acid derivatives to be altered by appending a variety of electron-withdrawing, electron-donating, or bulky groups.

Tissue engineering techniques can be utilized to repair or regenerate damaged tissue by promoting the proliferation and differentiation of cells in bone regeneration. A critical component of this process is the scaffold employed, which should ideally support consistent tissue development during bone regeneration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological, physicochemical, and biological characteristics of various scaffolds: S1 (C/MFC), S2 (C/H/MFC), S3 (C/MFC/Zr), S4 (C/MFC/PCL), S5 (C/H/MFC/PCL), S6 (C/PCL/MFC/Zr), and S7 (C/H/MFC/Zr), which are intended for application in bone regeneration.

The heme paradigm where Fe=O acts as the C-H oxidant and Fe-OH rebounds with the formed carbon-centered radical guides the design of the prototypical synthetic hydroxylation catalyst. We are exploring methods to evolve beyond the metal-oxo oxidant and hydroxide rebound, to incorporate a wider array of functional group. We have demonstrated the application of Co(OTf) (10 mol% catalyst; OTf=trimfluoromethanesulfonate) in combination with polydentate N-donor ligands (e.

Residual biomass is a promising carbon feedstock for the production of electricity-based organic chemicals and fuels since, unlike carbon dioxide captured from point sources or air, it also has a valuable energy input. Biomass can be converted into an intermediate stream suitable for Power-to-X processes mainly via combustion or gasification. Such combined processes are generally called biohybrid or Power- and Biomass-to-X processes.

Molecular editing of quinazolinones to isoquinolines by a novel ruthenium-catalyzed [4+2] annulation with sulfoxonium ylides has been developed. The method permits the precise and rapid assembly of multisubstituted aminoisoquinolines, a class of heterocycles that play a privileged role in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical development. This new catalytic process exhibits novel programmability, including directed C-H acetylation, nucleophilic cyclization, and alcoholysis.

Article Synopsis
  • A communication discussed Ru-catalyzed C-H bond arylation, leading to the formation of AP benzamides from 4-aminoantipyrine (AP).
  • High-throughput encapsulated nanodroplet crystallization (ENaCt) was employed to support the structures of these AP benzamides through single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD).
  • The article identifies the specific benzamide structure of N-(1,5-dimethyl-3-oxo-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-2-methylbenzamide and highlights significant hydrogen-bonding interactions observed in the X-ray analysis.
