Rechargeable aluminum-ion batteries (AIBs) are regarded as the next-generation energy storage devices due to their low flammability, low cost and high power density as well as abundant aluminum (Al) reserves. However, these popular ionic liquid electrolytes contain highly corrosive acid, which always corrodes the most used positive current collector, thus hindering the commercialization of AIBs. This study proposes an efficient and economical method of coating amorphous NiScompound on a nickel metal current collector (Ni-S/Ni). The conductivity and the onset oxidation potential of amorphous NiScoating can be up to 2.3 × 10S mand 2.7 V respectively. A Ni-S/Ni current collector can provide excellent cycling stability with no electrochemical corrosion in the AIBs. The AIBs fabricated using a Ni-S/Ni current collector exhibits a specific capacity of 65 mAh/g at 1 A g, high coulombic efficiency of 99% and cyclability of at least 2000 cycles. Moreover, the total cost of the Ni-S/Ni current collector can be limited to less than 3.3 USD/m. The comprehensive performances of these AIBs are better than most reported results so far, which indicates that this method can advance the commercialization of AIBs.

Controlling the nucleation, growth, and dissolution of Li is crucial for the high cycling stability in rechargeable Li metal batteries. The overpotential for Li nucleation (η) on Li alloys such as Li-Au is generally lower than that on metal current collectors (CCs) with very limited Li solubility like Cu. However, the alloying process of CC and its impact on the Li nucleation kinetics remain unclear.

The safety and cycling stability of potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are deeply associated with potassium-ion electrolytes. However, due to the weak Lewis acidity of potassium ions, localized high-concentration electrolytes in PIBs are prone to excessive weak solvation. Herein, we propose an entropy repair strategy for the solvation structure of potassium ions and systematically design a moderately weakly solvated high-entropy localized high-concentration electrolyte.

Bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) are crucial components in high-power electronic applications. However, while two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors with exceptional electrical properties have been extensively studied in field-effect transistors, their application in BJTs has received far less attention. In this study, we demonstrate high-gain MoS BJTs based on metal-semiconductor Schottky contacts.
