Background: Childhood autoimmune disorders involve the immune system attacking its own tissues, leading to varied symptoms, while autoinflammatory disorders result from innate immune system dysregulation, both requiring extensive diagnosis and multidisciplinary management due to their complexity.
Case Presentation: We present a unique clinical case of a teenager with a combination of autoimmune and autoinflammatory disorders. The initial manifestation of hip pain, coupled with progressive symptoms over several years and findings in multiple magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, culminated in the diagnosis of chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO).

Background: The vitamin D pathway contributes to the microbicidal activity of macrophages against infection. In addition to induction of this pathway, interferon-gamma (IFNγ), interleukin (IL)-15, and IL32γ are part of a network of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The aim of this study was to evaluate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the components of the vitamin D pathway and associated cytokine genes that could be related to resistance or susceptibility to American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL).

CRP is a biomarker of acute inflammation linked to metabolic complications. Given the rising prevalence of these conditions in India, we investigated the genetic basis of CRP levels in Indian adolescents, an underrepresented group in genetic studies, to identify early markers of metabolic risk. We performed a two-phased genome-wide association study (GWAS; N = 5052) and an independent Exome-wide association study (ExWAS; N = 4547), to identify both common and rare genetic variants associated with CRP levels.

Millions of Americans live with chronic inflammatory pain conditions, and the prevalence of these conditions increases with age and is higher in females. Still, it is poorly understood how sex, age and peripheral gene expression affect the trajectory of chronic inflammatory pain conditions. We used the inflammatory agent, Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA), to systematically test sex and age effects on mechanical and thermal sensitivity in adolescent and adult male and female Wistar rats over 3 weeks (Experiment 1 [onset]) or 11 weeks (Experiment 2 [recovery]).

Background/aims: Epidemiological data on mortality in autoimmune liver diseases (AILDs) are scarce. We examined all-cause and cancer-related mortality in individuals with AILD from Sweden.
Methods: We identified 9654 individuals with AILD (3342 with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), 3751 with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), and 2561 with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)) using national Swedish registries between 2001 and 2020.
