Background: Exogenous double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) has the potential to serve as an effective alternative to conventional chemical pesticides for the control of insect pests, because it can specifically inhibit essential gene expression in these organisms. However, identifying suitable gene targets remains a crucial step in the development of RNA interference (RNAi)-based pest control strategies.
Results: In this study, three apoptosis-related genes were selected to evaluate their potential for RNAi-induced lethality in Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata via foliar spray dsRNAs.

Nitrogen heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are emerging as effective substitutes for conventional thiol ligands in surface functionalization of nanoparticles (NPs), offering exceptional stability to NPs under harsh conditions. However, the highly reactive feature of NHCs limits their use in introducing chemically active groups onto the NP surface. Herein, we develop a general yet robust strategy for the efficient surface functionalization of NPs with copolymer ligands bearing various functional groups.

Advancements in screening technologies employing small organisms have enabled deep profiling of compounds in vivo. However, current strategies for phenotyping of behaving animals, such as zebrafish, typically involve tedious manipulations. Here, we develop and validate a fully automated in vivo screening system (AISS) that integrates microfluidic technology and computer-vision-based control methods to enable rapid evaluation of biological responses of non-anesthetized zebrafish to molecular gradients.

The death of osteoblasts induced by glucocorticoid (GC)-mediated oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the development of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SIONFH). Improving bone formation driven by osteoblasts has shown promising outcomes in the prognosis of SIONFH. Isovitexin has demonstrated antioxidant properties, but its therapeutic effects on GC-induced oxidative stress and SIONFH remain unexplored.

An adverse outcome pathway (AOP) framework maps the sequence of events leading to adverse outcomes from chemical exposures, providing a mechanistic understanding often absent in traditional methods. The quantitative AOP (qAOP) advances AOP by integrating quantitative data and mathematical modeling, thereby providing a more precise comprehension of relationships between molecular initiating events, key events, and adverse outcomes. This review critically examines three primary methodologies: systems toxicology, regression modeling, and Bayesian network modeling, highlighting their strengths, limitations, and specific data requirements within toxicology.
