Although Schleyer's computations in 1979 predicted that the ground state of the parent diborirane features a planar-tetracoordinate carbon atom (anti van't Hoff-Le Bel geometry), this work demonstrates that substitution of C coupled with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) coordination provides access to isolable diborirane derivatives 3 and 4 with van't Hoff-Le Bel geometry. Species 3 and 4 are isoelectronic with cyclopropane and the highly strained B C rings feature 2c-2e bent σ bonds. Consequently, the B-B and B-C bonds in 3 are cleaved in the presence of hydride, proton, and chalcogens. The former two reactions gave NHC-coordinated fluorenyldihydridoborane 5 and dichlorofluorenylborane 6, respectively, whereas the latter transformations afforded novel thiaborirane 8 and selenaborirane 9. In addition, transfer hydrogenation of 3 with ammonia borane (H N⋅BH ) led to the formation of (μ-hydrido)diborane 7 via selective cleavage of the B-B bond. These reactivities show potential for their future application in organic synthesis.

Rigidity Aspects of Penrose's Singularity Theorem.

In this paper, we study rigidity aspects of Penrose's singularity theorem. Specifically, we aim to answer the following question: if a spacetime satisfies the hypotheses of Penrose's singularity theorem except with weakly trapped surfaces instead of trapped surfaces, then what can be said about the global spacetime structure if the spacetime is null geodesically complete? In this setting, we show that we obtain a foliation of MOTS which generate totally geodesic null hypersurfaces. Depending on our starting assumptions, we obtain either local or global rigidity results.

Noncovalent carbon bonding (C-bonding), a recently explored σ-hole interaction, has primarily been characterized through X-ray structural and computational studies. Evidence of C-bonds in solution is scarce, especially in highly polar solvents like DMSO where solvation effects typically overshadow weak non-covalent interactions. In this work, we present three novel spiroisatin-based -acyl hydrazones (1-3) in which C-bonds play a critical role in stabilizing the conformation in solution.

A complementary experimental and computational study on methanol adsorption isotherms of H-ZSM-5.

UK Catalysis Hub, Research Complex at Harwell, Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, OX11 0FA, UK.

Methanol adsorption isotherms of fresh f-ZSM-5 and steamed s-ZSM-5 (Si/Al ≈ 40) are investigated experimentally at room temperature under equilibrium and by grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations with the aim of understanding the adsorption capacity, geometry and sites as a function of steam treatment (at 573 K for 24 h). Methanol adsorption energies calculated by GCMC are complemented by density functional theory (DFT) employing both periodic and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) techniques. Physical and textural properties of f-ZSM-5 and s-ZSM-5 are characterised by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transformed spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and N-physisorption, which form a basis to construct models for f-ZSM-5 and s-ZSM-5 to simulate methanol adsorption isotherms by GCMC.

Research on bearing fault diagnosis based on a multimodal method.

Math Biosci Eng

December 2024

School of Information Engineering, Nantong Institute of Technology, Nantong 226002, Jiangsu, China.

As an essential component of mechanical systems, bearing fault diagnosis is crucial to ensure the safe operation of the equipment. However, vibration data from bearings often exhibit non-stationary and nonlinear features, which complicates fault diagnosis. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a novel multi-scale time-frequency and statistical features fusion model (MTSF-FM).
