The organic-inorganic hybrid copper halides exhibit intriguing and complex photophysical properties, and the underlying mechanisms are far from clear. Here, we study the photodynamics of six novel types of low-dimensional hybrid copper halides, which have a maximum quantum yield of 98.6%. They exhibit two origins of photon emission with distinct temperature dependence and quantum transition rates. The experiments in junction with first-principles calculations indicate that they stem from two kinds of self-trapped excitons (STEs): one-center a-STE (localized on Cu monomer) and two-center m-STE (localized on Cu dimer). There is phase transition between a-STE and m-STE when enough thermal energy is acquired for crossing the potential barrier between them. The degree of softness of the compositional organic cations of the copper halide plays a key role in determining the self-trapping type of the STEs.

The funarioid moss species , which is threatened with extinction, was the subject of this study. The riparian habitat type of this species is often under the influence of contaminated water, and, therefore, we tested the influence of selected potentially toxic elements (PTEs), namely zinc and copper, on the development, physiological features, and survival of the species on two different accessions (German and Croatian). The results obtained showed the different resilience of the two accessions to the PTEs.

Structure and Functional Characteristics of Novel Polyurethane/Ferrite Nanocomposites with Antioxidant Properties and Improved Biocompatibility for Vascular Graft Development.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Biochemistry, Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković"-National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, Bulevar despota Stefana 142, 11060 Belgrade, Serbia.

Novel ferrite/polyurethane nanocomposites were synthesized using the in situ polymerization method after the addition of different spinel nanoferrite particles (copper, zinc, and copper-zinc) and examined as potential coatings for medical devices and implants in vascular tissue engineering. The influence of the nanoferrite type on the structure and functional characteristics of the polyurethane composites was investigated by FTIR, SWAXS, AFM, TGA, DSC, nanoindentation, swelling behavior, water contact angle, and water absorption measurements. Biocompatibility was evaluated by examining the cytotoxicity and adhesion of human endothelial cells and fibroblasts onto prepared composites and performing a protein adsorption test.

Synthesis of an Azido-Substituted 8-Membered Ring Laddersiloxane and Its Application in Catalysis.

ICGM, Univ Montpellier, CNRS, ENSCM (Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier, Université de Montpellier, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier), 1919 Route de Mende, CEDEX 05, 34293 Montpellier, France.

A first -type tricyclic 8-8-8 (three fused-8-membered ring) laddersiloxane functionalized with four azido groups was successfully synthesized through efficient and highly selective hydrosilylation and nucleophilic substitution, achieving an excellent overall yield. The starting material, a tetravinyl-substituted 8-8-8 laddersiloxane, was prepared via a straightforward and scalable method. The obtained azido-functionalized ladder compound, fully characterized, constitutes a versatile building block for hybrid materials.

It is challenging to handle heavy-metal-rich plants that grow in contaminated soil. The role of heavy metals in biomass on the physicochemical structure and electrochemical properties of their derived carbon has not been considered in previous research. In this study, Cu-ion hybrid nanoporous carbon (CHNC) is prepared from Cu content-contaminated biomass through subcritical hydrocharization (HTC) coupling pyrolytic activation processes.

Copper-based halides have attracted significant attention due to their unique photophysical properties and diverse coordination configurations. However, enhancing water stability and modulating structural transitions in cuprous halide materials remain challenging. In this work, we successfully synthesized three copper(I) halides, (CHP)CuBr (L1, [CHP] = hexyltriphenylphosphonium), (CHP)CuBr (L2), and (CHP)CuI (L3), via solvent volatilization, demonstrating exceptional water stability even after 27 days of submersion.
