The culinary-medicinal mushroom is widely cultivated in East Asia. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of was determined using Illumina sequencing. The circular molecule was 197,486 bp in length with a content of 25.01% GC, which was one of the largest mitochondrial genomes in the order Polyporales. A total of 39 known genes encoding 13 common mitochondrial genes, 24 tRNA genes, 1 ribosomal protein s3 gene (), and 1 DNA polymerase gene () were predicted in this genome. The phylogenetic analysis showed that clustered together with , , , and . The complete mitochondrial genome reported here may provide new insight into genetic information and evolution for further studies.

The Canadian province of Alberta contains substantial oilsands reservoirs, consisting of bitumen, clay and sand. Extracting oil involves separating bitumen from inorganic particles using hot water and chemical diluents, resulting in liquid tailings waste with ecotoxicologically significant compounds. Ongoing efforts aim to reclaim tailings-affected areas, with protist colonisation serving as one assessment method of reclamation progress.

Species of the family Echeneidae are renowned for their capacity to adhere to various hosts using a sucking disc. This study aimed to examine the mitochondrial genome characteristics of three fish species (, , and ) within the family Echeneidae and determine their phylogenetic relationships. The findings revealed that the mitochondrial genome lengths of the three species were 16,611 bp, 16,648 bp, and 16,623 bp, respectively, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a D-loop region.

While iron (Fe) is essential for life and plays important roles for almost all growth related processes, it can trigger cell death in both animals and plants. However, the underlying mechanisms for Fe-induced cell death in plants remain largely unknown. S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) has previously been reported to regulate nitric oxide homeostasis to prevent Fe-induced cell death within root meristems.

The underlying mechanisms explaining the differential course of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the potential clinical consequences after COVID-19 resolution have not been fully elucidated. As a dysregulated mitochondrial activity could impair the immune response, we explored long-lasting changes in mitochondrial functionality, circulating cytokine levels, and metabolomic profiles of infected individuals after symptoms resolution, to evaluate whether a complete recovery could be achieved. Results of this pilot study evidenced that different parameters of aerobic respiration in lymphocytes of individuals recuperated from a severe course lagged behind those shown upon mild COVID-19 recovery, in basal conditions and after simulated reinfection, and they also showed altered glycolytic capacity.
