Objective: Back pain is reported to be the fifth most common reason for referral a patient to a physician and the most common disability in modern society. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of calcitonin addition on epidural injection in patients with degenerative spinal canal stenosis in comparison with epidural triamcinolone injection.

Materials And Methods: The clinical trial study was performed on 40 patients with degenerative spinal stenosis, referred to pain clinic of RasoulAkram Hospital in 2018, who were randomly divided into two intervention and control groups, including 20 individuals in each group. In the intervention group, 50 units of calcitonin were injected with 8 cc of ropivacaine 0.2% while 80 mg of triamcinolone with 8 cc of ropivacaine 0.2% was injected in the control group. Functional disability was evaluated based on the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and pain ratings were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).

Results: Pain at 4 and 8 weeks after the procedure was significantly different between the two groups. A significant difference in the patient disability index was observed between two groups at 8 and 12 weeks after the procedure. On the other hand, the rate of analgesic consumption at 4, 8 and 12 weeks after the procedure was significantly decreased in the calcitonin group (P <0.001).

Conclusions: Based on our results, injection of calcitonin into the epidural space can reduce the pain of the patients and their analgesic consumption compared to the group receiving steroids through the epidural space.

Background: Rupture of extensor pollicis longus tendon (EPL) is a known complication following a distal radius fracture (DRF). Although the precise mechanisms behind these ruptures remain unclear, vascular impairment is thought to play a significant role. Additionally, the impact of an EPL rupture on microstructure of the tendon and muscle is not well understood, but such information could be important in guiding treatment strategies.

Toxoplasmosis induced by Toxoplasma gondii is a well-known health threat, that prompts fatal encephalitis increased with immunocompromised patients, in addition, it can cause chorioretinitis, microcephaly, stillbirth in the fetus and even led to death. Standard therapy uses sulfadiazine and pyrimethamine drugs revealed beneficial results during the acute stage, however, it has severe side effects. UPLC-ESI-MS/MS used to explore C.

Purpose: Bone cement-reinforced fenestrated pedicle screws (FPSs) have been widely used in the internal fixation and repair of the spine with osteoporosis in recent years and show significant improvement in fixation strength and stability. However, compared with conventional reinforcement methods, the advantages of bone cement-reinforced FPSs remain undetermined. This article compares the effects of fenestrated and conventional pedicle screws (CPSs) combined with bone cement in the treatment of osteoporosis.

Introduction: Isolated posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fracture is rare in pediatric population. To our knowledge, there is no established guideline to treat this rare injury in children. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges and treatment strategies using screw fixation for such injuries, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention to prevent long-term complications.

Background: Epigenetic modifications have been proved to play important roles in the spinal degenerative diseases. As a type of noncoding RNA, the microRNA (miRNA) is a vital class of regulatory factor in the epigenetic modifications, while the role of miRNAs in the regulation of epigenetic modifications in ligamentum flavum hypertrophy (LFH) has not been fully investigated.

Methods: The miRNA sequencing analysis was used to explore the change of miRNA expression during the fibrosis of ligamentum flavum (LF) cells caused by the TGF-β1 (10 ng/ml).
