To evaluate polypharmacy (PP) in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer receiving regorafenib. Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer receiving regorafenib were included and divided into two categories by their PP status: PP (<5 regular drug use/day) and PP (≥5 regular drug use/day). 80 patients were included. 31 (38.7%) patients had PP. The median number of drugs used was three and seven in PP and PP patients, respectively. Antiemetics (26.5%) and antacids (48.4%) were the most common drugs used by PP and PP patients, respectively. In multivariate analysis, the risk of death was higher in PP patients (hazard ratio: 2.1; 95% CI: 1.2-3.7; p = 0.005). PP was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer receiving regorafenib.

A union of two rare pathologies: small bowel diverticula perforation secondary to impacted gallstone ileus.

J Surg Case Rep

Department of Colorectal Surgery, Sydney Adventist Hospital, 185 Fox Valley Road, Wahroonga, Sydney, New South Wales 2076, Australia.

An 84-year-old lady presented with 1 day history of sudden onset generalized abdominal pain, fevers, and peritonism. Computed tomography was suggestive of a mid-small bowel perforation associated with a distal ovoid soft tissue density structure without pneumobilia. An urgent laparotomy demonstrated two areas of jejunal diverticula necrosis and perforation associated with a 3 cm luminal mass in the proximal ileum, and proximal small bowel dilatation.

Background: Patients with mutant metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) have a low incidence rate, poor biological activity, suboptimal response to conventional treatments, and a poor prognosis. In the previous cohort study on mCRC conducted by our team, it was observed that integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment could significantly prolong the overall survival (OS) of patients with colorectal cancer. Therefore, we further explored the survival benefits in the population with mutant mCRC.

Background: Mucinous adenocarcinoma is a rare type of colorectal cancer (CRC) associated with poor prognosis, particularly when it includes signet ring cell components. Furthermore, its rate of microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) is significantly higher compared to non-mucinous adenocarcinoma. Immunotherapy has emerged as the standard treatment for MSI-H metastatic CRC (mCRC).

Introduction: This study aimed to describe the relationship between the number of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) resected and the rate of postoperative complications and to determine a threshold level, if any, for which the risk of postoperative complications outweighs the benefit of resection of metastatic disease.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database from 2019 to 2021. Patients were divided into three major groups: one to two, three to four, and more than five CRLM.

Purpose: An initial analysis of population-based cancer survival data from Georgia revealed lower CRC survival rates compared to high-income countries. We conducted the study to address this issue and propose strategies for enhancing CRC care.

Patients And Methods: We analyzed CRC statistics, reviewed screening programs, and examined published CRC research in Georgia.
