Headaches are a common presenting complaint to the emergency department. Amongst the common non-life-threatening headaches, migraine headaches tend to be one of the more severe. Commonly, migraines are treated with the so-called "migraine cocktail." At our facility, this cocktail is usually IV fluids, metoclopramide, diphenhydramine, and ketorolac. The patient is then left in a quiet, dark room for two to three hours, then reassessed for symptom improvement or if more medications are required. Recently we have begun to employ the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) block as a rapid, and easy-to-administer alternative to the classic migraine cocktail. The SPG block can often provide sufficient improvement of symptoms within 15 minutes to allow the patient to be discharged. Patients are grateful to have such rapid pain relief, and the ED flow is improved with a door-to-discharge time that can be less than an hour. The following is a series of three recent cases where we have used the SPG block to treat migraines in our ED patients.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG)-coated microsized artificial oxygen carriers (AOCs) with a perfluorooctyl bromide (PFOB) core and poly(lactide--caprolactone) (PLC) shell were successfully fabricated using Shirasu porous glass (SPG) membrane emulsification. The PEG coating was achieved by adding the polylactide--polyethylene glycol--polylactide (PLA-PEG-PLA) block copolymer to the disperse phase during the SPG membrane emulsification process. During the DCM evaporation process, the three-layer structure of the PEG layer, PLC shell, and PFOB core of the AOCs spontaneously formed by phase separation.

Background: Diabetes-induced testicular damage (DITD) is a common complication of diabetes. We investigated underlying mechanism of retinoblastoma-binding protein 6 (Rbbp6)-mediated brain and muscle ARNT-like 1 (Bmal1) ubiquitination in modulating ferroptosis in DITD.
Methods: Spermatogenic cell apoptosis and viability were measured by flow cytometry and cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8), respectively.

Tuning the charge density at the active site to balance the adsorption ability and reactivity of oxygen is extremely significant for driving a two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to produce hydrogen peroxide (HO). Herein, we have highlighted the influence of intermolecular polarity in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) on the efficiency and selectivity of electrochemical HO production. Different C3 symmetric building blocks have been utilized to regulate the charge density at the active sites.

As a logographic writing system, Chinese reading involves the processing of visuospatial orthographic (ORT) properties. However, this aspect has received relatively less attention in neuroimaging research, which has tended to emphasize phonological (PHO) and semantic (SEM) aspects in processing Chinese characters. Here, we compared the functional correlates supporting all these three processes in a functional MRI single-character reading study, in which 35 native Chinese adults were asked to make ORT, PHO, and SEM judgments in separate task-specific activation blocks.

Background: A novel technique for injection of OnabotulinumtoxinA (BTA) towards the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) has shown promise in refractory chronic migraine (CM) and chronic cluster headache (CCH). Open label safety and efficacy data are presented here.
Methods: Patients with refractory CM or CCH who had received at least one injection and completed headache diaries were included.
