Introduction: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial diseases of childhood with an increased frequency in infants and young children.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of children diagnosed with UTI in the Alessandrescu-Rusescu National Institute for Mother and Child Health, Bucharest, Romania between January 2017 and December 2019. We evaluated the patients' clinical characteristics, laboratory parameters and the resistance profile of the identified uropathogens.
Results: A total of 264 children were included in the analysis. Females (71.6%, n=186) and infants (52.7%, n=139) were more commonly affected. The recurrence rate was 27.7% and was positively associated with the presence of renal malformations. Age under 1-year, increased leukocyte and neutrophil counts, and elevated C-reactive protein were associated with hospitalization. (80.3%, n=212) was the main etiological agent isolated, followed by (9.8%, n=26) and spp. (6.4%, n=17). We identified increased resistance for all germs to common antibiotics used in pediatrics: ampicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, cefuroxime, ceftriaxone, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.
Conclusions: We identified an increased resistance of uropathogens to antimicrobials commonly used in children. Reporting antimicrobial resistance from real-world clinical practice is necessary for accurate mapping and continuous updating of initial treatment recommendations until antibiogram results are received. In Romania and other countries, extensive studies are needed to follow up uropathogen resistance in both children and adults.

Background: Limited data is available to evaluate the burden of device associated healthcare infections (HAI) [central line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), and ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)] in low and-middle-income countries. Our aim is to investigate the population attributable mortality fraction and the absolute mortality difference of HAI in a broad population of critically ill patients from Brazil.

Sound-based uroflowmetry (SU) offers a non-invasive alternative to traditional uroflowmetry (UF) for evaluating lower urinary tract dysfunctions, enabling home-based testing and reducing the need for clinic visits. This study compares SU and UF in estimating urine flow rate and voided volume in 50 male volunteers (aged 18-60), with UF results from a Minze uroflowmeter as the reference standard. Audio signals recorded during voiding were segmented and machine learning algorithms (gradient boosting, random forest, and support vector machine) estimated flow parameters from three devices: Ultramic384k, Mi A1 smartphone, and Oppo smartwatch.

Introduction: Primary bladder neck obstruction (PBNO) is a rare but significant cause of BOO and LUTS in females, with unclear etiology involving theories of fibrotic narrowing, tissue hyperplasia, or muscle abnormalities. Due to nonspecific symptoms, PBNO diagnosis remains challenging, and optimal surgical treatment needs to be better defined.
Case Presentation: We report two cases of females in their 50s with recurrent urinary retention managed by indwelling catheters.

Studies in literature discussed the drawbacks of the ureteral access sheath use in flexible ureteroscopy and in the same time mentioned the benefits of ureteral access sheath in decreasing the incidence of urosepsis and better stone free rate. In the current study we aim to compare between percutaneous nephrostomy tube (PCN) insertion before flexible ureteroscopy and conventional ureteral access sheath (UAS) flexible ureteroscopy in terms of safety, efficacy and perioperative outcomes. In all, 100 Patients aged 20 to 67 years with upper ureteric stones and mild hydronephrosis or renal pelvic stones less than 20 mm with mild hydronephrosis were randomized into 2 groups; patients undergoing PCN insertion before flexible ureteroscopy, and patients undergoing the conventional UAS flexible ureteroscopy.
