All patients with a new head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) undergo diagnostic panendoscopy as part of the screening for synchronous second primary tumors. It includes a pharyngolaryngoscopy (PLS), a tracheobronchoscopy and esophagoscopy, and a stomatoscopy. Rigid techniques are risky, with long learning curves. We propose a precise description of the panendoscopy protocol. We include an optimization of the PLS technique that completes the flexible esophagoscopy when rigid esophagoscopy isn't performed. The present retrospective observational study includes 122 consecutive patients with a new primary HNSCC who underwent traditional panendoscopy and the new PLS technique between January 2014 and December 2016. A two-step procedure using a Macintosh laryngoscope and a 30° telescope first exposes panoramically the larynx, the upper trachea, and the oropharynx; then, in a second step, the hypopharynx is exposed down to the upper esophageal sphincter. Broncho-esophagoscopy is performed with a rigid and flexible scope. In total, 6 (5%) patients presented synchronous tumors (3 in the esophagus, 2 in the oral cavity, and 1 in the larynx 1). Rigid endoscopy was complicated by 2 (1,6%) dental lesions, and had to be completed with a flexible scope in 38 (33%) cases for exposition reasons. The two-step PLS offered a wide-angle view of the larynx, upper trachea, and oro- and hypopharynx down to the sphincter of the upper esophagus. The procedure was easy, reliable, safe, repeatable, and effectively completed the flexible endoscopies. Rigid esophagoscopy remains a difficult procedure. Two-step PLS combined with flexible broncho-esophagoscopy offers good optical control.

Bone mechanical function is determined by multiple factors, some of which are still being elucidated. Here, we present a multivariate analysis of the role of bone tissue composition in the proximal femur stiffness of cadaver bones (n = 12, age 44-93). Stiffness was assessed by testing under loading conditions simulating a sideways fall onto the hip.

Within the context of polypropylene recycling by dissolution, the potential degradation of polypropylene in solution has been investigated using in situ NIR and Raman spectroscopy. Pure polypropylene, completely free of additives, and commercial polypropylene, low in additives, are degraded on purpose under different conditions. Genetic algorithm combined with partial least squares (GA-PLS) models have been built based on near-infrared (NIR) spectra, and partial least squares (PLS) models based on Raman spectra, to predict the mass average molar mass and the chain-scission rate, respectively, during the degradation process.

Storage duration significantly influences the aroma profile of raw Pu-erh tea. To comprehensively investigate the differences in the volatile compounds across various vintages of raw Pu-erh teas and achieve the rapid classification of tea vintages, volatile compounds of raw Pu-erh tea with different years (2020-2023) were analyzed using a combination of gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The datasets obtained from both techniques were integrated through low-level and mid-level data fusion strategies.

This work employs the femtosecond laser-ablation spark-induced breakdown spectroscopy (fs-LA-SIBS) technique for the quantitative analysis of magnesium alloy samples. It integrates four machine learning models: Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Partial Least Squares (PLS), and -Nearest Neighbors (KNN) to evaluate their classification performance in identifying magnesium alloys. In regression tasks, the models aim to predict the content of four elements: manganese (Mn), aluminum (Al), zinc (Zn), and nickel (Ni) in the samples.

Introduction: Exploring the factors that drive academic achievement motivation is a vital area in educational psychology, particularly within specialized fields like tourism and hospitality higher education. Achievement motivation, essential for academic and career success, is shaped by various positive psychological resources and contextual factors. Grounded in the framework of positive psychology, this study examines how satisfaction with academic majors (SAT) predicts achievement motivation among tourism and hospitality students in Saudi Arabia.
