Purpose: We investigated changes in macular topography and their association with visual acuity and metamorphopsia in the idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM).

Methods: Twenty-four eyes that underwent vitrectomy and ERM removal with internal limiting membrane peeling were included in this study. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and horizontal/vertical metamorphopsia scores (h and vM-scores in the M-chart) were assessed.

Motivation: Recent advancements in parallel sequencing methods have precipitated a surge in publicly available short-read sequence data. This has encouraged the development of novel computational tools for the de novo assembly of transcriptomes from RNA-seq data. Despite the availability of these tools, performing an end-to-end transcriptome assembly remains a programmatically involved task necessitating familiarity with best practices.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Gordon Center for Medical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Background: Estimating the time course of locus coeruleus integrity changes is important for a better understanding of the pathophysiological cascade and for identifying the optimal window of opportunity for prevention trials. We used samples iterative local approximation (SILA) to determine the individual estimated time of onset of low LC integrity and related this to early cortical tau deposition and cognitive decline.

Methods: 101 individuals from the Harvard Aging Brain Study+ with longitudinal 3T MRI-LC imaging, 18F-Flortaucipir (FTP)-PET imaging (n=92 with longitudinal data), longitudinal cognitive assessments and baseline PiB-PET imaging were included (mean age: 69.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Imeka Solutions Inc, Sherbrooke, QC, Canada.

Background: Diffusion MRI (dMRI) measures are variable across sites and MRI vendors, which leads to a site bias in the reported quantitative white matter metrics (Figure 1). ComBat is currently the go-to method for harmonizing MRI data. However, to our knowledge, the harmonization power of ComBat has not been convincingly demonstrated on the ADNI cohort and was never tested in the context of normative assessment for Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients.

Taylor's swimming sheet near a soft boundary.

Soft Matter

January 2025

Univ. Bordeaux, CNRS, LOMA, UMR 5798, F-33405 Talence, France.

In 1951, G. I. Taylor modeled swimming microorganisms by hypothesizing an infinite sheet in 2D moving in a viscous medium due to a wave passing through it.
