Article Synopsis
  • Failed induction of labor in Ethiopia is linked to increased health risks for mothers, including complications from cesarean deliveries and higher mortality rates.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on studies from 2013 to 2023, including 28 studies with 9,757 participants, to assess the prevalence and associated factors of failed induction.
  • The findings revealed a pooled prevalence of 22.39%, with higher rates in Addis Ababa, and identified risk factors such as rural residency, being a first-time mother, an unfavorable Bishop score, hypertension, and premature rupture of membranes.

Article Synopsis
  • This study is a retrospective cohort analysis that examines how inadequate correction of lumbar lordosis at L4-S1 during TLIF affects the development of adjacent segment disease and the need for revision surgeries.
  • It included 168 patients, primarily around 61 years old, who underwent 1-3 level TLIF, and the findings indicated that inadequate lordosis restoration led to significantly higher rates of adjacent segment disease (33.3% vs. 6.7%) and revision surgeries (25.9% vs. 5.7%).
  • The results highlight the importance of achieving proper alignment to reduce complications and improve patient outcomes after spinal fusion surgery.

Postmortem and in vivo imaging studies have shown brain inflammation early in these conditions, proportionate to symptom severity and rate of progression. However, evidence for corresponding blood markers of inflammation and their relationship with central inflammation and clinical outcome are limited.
