Catalytic imidation using NFSI as the nitrogen source has become an emerging tool for oxidative carbon-nitrogen bond formation. However, the less than ideal benzenesulfonimide moiety is incorporated into products, severely detracting its synthetic value. As a solution to this challenge, we report herein the development of a novel -fluorinated imide, -fluoro--(fluorosulfonyl)carbamate (NFC), by which the attached imide moiety acts as a modular synthetic handle for one-step derivatization to amines, sulfonamides, and sulfamides. Furthermore, this study revealed the superior reactivity of NFC as showcased in a copper-catalyzed imidation of benzene derivatives and imidocyanation of aliphatic alkenes, overcoming the limitation of NFSI-mediated reactions.

Polyimide membranes have long been of great interest in the battery industries due to their outstanding thermal stability and flame retardancy. However, the preparation of polyimide membranes with ideal pore structure and excellent lithium-ion transference remains a challenge. In this study, we reported for the first time, that a nano-porous fluorinated and partially carboxylated polyimide/cellulose composite membrane was successfully synthesized by selected monomers and prepared by thermal imidization, phase separation, and alkaline hydrolysis method.

The self-assembled monolayer (SAM) technique, known for its customizable molecular segments and active end groups, is widely recognized as a powerful tool for regulating the interfacial properties of high-energy-density lithium metal batteries. However, it remains unclear how the degree of long-range order in SAMs affects the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). In this study, we precisely controlled the hydrolysis of silanes to construct monolayers with varying degrees of long-range order and investigated their effects on the SEI nanostructure and lithium anode performance.

Electrolytes play a crucial role in enhancing the cycling stability and overall lifespan of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). However, conventional electrolytes achieve ununiform and low ionic conductivity solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), leading to uncontrolled lithium dendrite growth and dead lithium formation, rendering them inadequate for meeting the performance of high energy density LMBs. Herein, a 1,2-difluorobenzene (1,2-dFBn) is introduced as antisolvent in fluorinated electrolyte which is composed of fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI).

Two-dimensional (2D) nanostructured liquid crystals containing fluorinated cyclohexylphenyl and cyclic carbonate moieties have been developed as quasi-solid-state self-organized electrolytes for safe lithium-ion batteries. We have designed lithium ion-conductive liquid-crystalline (LC) materials with fluorine substituents on mesogens for improved oxidation stability. Computational studies suggest that the fluorination of mesogens lowers the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level of LC molecules and improves their oxidation resistance as electrolytes.

Phenylethynyl-terminated imide (PETI) oligomers are highly valued for their diverse applications in films, moldings, adhesives, and composite material matrices. PETIs can be synthesized at varying molecular weights, enabling the fine-tuning of their properties to meet specific application requirements. Upon thermal curing, these oligomers form super-rigid network structures that enhance solvent resistance, increase glass-transition temperatures, and improve elastic moduli.
