The rational design and demonstration of a facile sequential template-mediated strategy to construct noble-metal-free efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and electrocatalytic detection of hazardous environmental 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) have continued as a major challenging task. Herein, we construct a novel Ag@polymer/NiAl LDH (designated as APL) nanohybrid as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst by a simple hydrolysis method. The well-fabricated APL/GCE exhibited an extensive linear range from 0.1 to 100 μM in optimized conditions. It showed a detection limit (LOD) of 0.0096 μM (9.6 nM) (/ = 3) for 4-NP in pH 6 by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Meanwhile, the newly fabricated APL exhibited outstanding OER activity with a very low overpotential of 259 mV to deliver 10 mA cm current density () at a scan rate of 5 mV/s. The Tafel plot value of APL is low (97 mV/dec) compared to that of the benchmark RuO due to a fast kinetic reaction. Besides, the durability of the electrocatalyst was assessed by a chronoamperometry test (CA) for 36 h at 1.55 mV vs RHE, and the long-term cycling stability was analyzed by using cyclic voltammetry (CV); after 5000 cycles, the electrocatalyst was highly stable. These demonstrated results could lead to an alternative electrocatalyst construction for the bifunctionally efficient electrochemical sensing of 4-nitrophenol and oxygen evolution reaction.

Electrochemical reduction of CO to value-added multicarbon (C) productions offers an attractive route for renewable energy storage and CO utilization, but it remains challenging to achieve high C selectivity at industrial-level current density. Herein, a MoCu single-atom alloy (SAA) catalyst is reported that displays a remarkable C Faradaic efficiency of 86.4% under 0.

This investigation explores the potential of co-incorporating nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) into copper oxide (CuO) nanostructures for bifunctional electrochemical charge storage and oxygen evolution reactions (OER). A facile wet chemical synthesis method is employed to co-incorporate Ni and Co into CuO, yielding diverse nanostructured morphologies, including rods, spheres, and flake. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman analyses confirmed the formation of NiCo-CuO nanostructure, with minor phases of nickel oxide (NiO) and cobalt tetraoxide (CoO).

The conventional carbonization process for synthesizing hard carbons (HCs) requires high-temperature furnace operations exceeding 1000 °C, leading to excessive energy consumption and lengthy processing times, which necessitates the exploration of more efficient synthesis methods. This study demonstrates the rapid preparation of HC anodes using intense pulsed light (IPL)-assisted photothermal carbonization without the prolonged and complex operations typical of traditional carbonization methods. A composite film of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is carbonized at high temperatures in less than 1 min.

Due to its exceptional electronic properties and catalytic activity, MoC has garnered significant attention for its application in electrocatalysis, particularly for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, several critical challenges continue to impede its widespread use, especially under strongly alkaline conditions. A primary obstacle is the enhancement of its intrinsic activity through further modification strategies, which remains a key limitation for its broader utilization.
