Introduction: Viral infections are the predominant cause of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) across the globe. From July to August of 2023, a large-scale conjunctivitis outbreak was witnessed in India, affecting a large number of individuals. The present study was initiated to identify the causative agent responsible for the AHC outbreak in Kalburgi district of Karnataka state.

American alligators () are an important apex predator of semiaquatic habitats of the southern United States. Commercial alligator farming has grown in the last several decades, leading to a need to understand the health conditions that affect this species to ensure appropriate management and welfare. The aims of this study were 1) to establish and describe normative data including results of common ophthalmic diagnostic tests and conjunctival flora, 2) document ocular pathology in this population, and 3) assess the effect of topical rocuronium bromide and 10% phenylephrine for facilitating pharmacologic mydriasis.

Background: Trachoma programs use the indicator trachomatous inflammation--follicular (TF) to monitor indication for and response to treatment for trachoma at the district level. Alternative indicators, including serologic markers, are increasingly being evaluated for trachoma surveillance. We evaluated seroprevalence of IgG antibodies to the Pgp3 antigen in two districts in Maradi, Niger thought to have low TF prevalence.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening disease in premature infants, characterized by high mortality. Recent studies increasingly highlight the role of gut dysbiosis in NEC pathogenesis. Although probiotics have shown some efficacy in preventing NEC, further research is needed to determine potential strains and approaches.
