Despite advancements in antiretroviral therapy (ART) that reduces the viral load to undetectable levels and improve CD4 T cell counts, viral eradication has not been achieved due to HIV-1 persistence in resting CD4 T-cells. We, therefore, characterized the gene, which is essential for HIV-1 replication and pathogenesis, from 20 virologically controlled aging individuals with HIV (HIV) on long-term ART and improved CD4 T-cell counts, with a particular focus on older individuals. Peripheral blood mononuclear cell genomic DNA from HIV were used to amplify gene by polymerase chain reaction followed by nucleotide sequencing and analysis.

Inability to express the confidence level and detect unseen disease classes limits the clinical implementation of artificial intelligence in the real world. We develop a foundation model with uncertainty estimation (FMUE) to detect 16 retinal conditions on optical coherence tomography (OCT). In the internal test set, FMUE achieves a higher F1 score of 95.

Using UMAP for Partially Synthetic Healthcare Tabular Data Generation and Validation.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Center, Technical University of Catalonia, Nexus II Building, Jordi Girona 29, 08034 Barcelona, Spain.

In healthcare, vast amounts of data are increasingly collected through sensors for smart health applications and patient monitoring or diagnosis. However, such medical data often comprise sensitive patient information, posing challenges regarding data privacy, and are resource-intensive to acquire for significant research purposes. In addition, the common case of lack of information due to technical issues, transcript errors, or differences between descriptors considered in different health centers leads to the need for data imputation and partial data generation techniques.

Background: In Northern Ireland, approximately 550 people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) attend the regional paediatric and adult centres within the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. This autosomal recessive chronic condition necessitates regular clinical monitoring and a high treatment burden, as well as time implications for the maintenance of respiratory devices. Development of health literacy skills at an early age and promoting children with CF (CwCF) to take an active role in their healthcare has many advantages relating to their long-term self-care in preparation for transition from paediatric to adult care, decision-making and partnership engagement with the CF-multidisciplinary team (CF-MDT).
