Here, a highly luminescent, stable, and visible-transparent organic-inorganic hybrid film was synthesized in a siloxane-polyether (di-ureasil) sol-gel process by dissolving a 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-1,5-naphthyridine-3-carbonitrile (2mCND) ligand and a europium(III) ion. Doping a europium(III) complex into di-ureasil achieves an boost in photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQY) from 23.25 to 68.9%. In particular, the excellent photostability of the hybrid film was demonstrated after a 15 h aging experiment in strong UV-LED irradiation (∼468 mW/cm). Compared to the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) matrix, di-ureasil containing a europium(III) complex shows an improved UV resistance, making it a promising candidate for various photonic applications. By integrating the hybrid film onto an acrylic substrate, a transparent luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) was fabricated, which reveals an optical conversion efficiency of ∼0.51% with a factor of 3.1 at an optical transmission level of ∼90%. Such an LSC could be of particular interest in future transparent photovoltaic windows.

In this study, biopolymer composites based on chitosan (CS) with enhanced optical properties were functionalized using Manganese metal complexes and black tea solution dyes. The results indicate that CS with Mn-complexes can produce polymer hybrids with high absorption, high refractive index and controlled optical band gaps, with a significant reduction from 6.24 eV to 1.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a highly sensitive technology to detect target analytes. The construction of dynamic "hot-spots" represents a significant approach to enhancing detection sensitivity. Herein, a hybrid plasma platform with dynamic "hot-spots" was developed for SERS recognition based on the assembly of gold nanospheres (AuNSs) on temperature-sensitive bacterial cellulose (BC) film grafted with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM).

Carbon-based nanomaterials with excellent electrical and optical properties are highly sought after for a plethora of hybrid applications, ranging from advanced sustainable energy storage devices to opto-electronic components. In this contribution, we examine in detail the dependence of electrical conductivity and the ultrafast optical nonlinearity of graphene oxide (GO) films on their degrees of reduction, as well as the link between the two properties. The GO films were first synthesized through the vacuum filtration method and then reduced partially and controllably by way of femtosecond laser direct writing with varying power doses.
