Biapenem is a novel parenteral broad spectrum carbapenem primarily used for the treatment of complicated infections like sepsis, lower respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal and genitourinary infections etc. in Japan, Thailand and China since two decades, has been recently approved in India. Biapenem shows good bactericidal activity against Gram-positive bacteria including streptococcus pneumoniae, pyogenes and methicillin-susceptible staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). It also shows antibacterial activities against Gram-negative bacteria including resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. Evidence from international studies confirmed that biapenem can be used as effectively and safely as meropenem or imipenem/ cilastatin in the treatment of various infectious diseases. This article summarizes the milestones, unique structure, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, special pharmacological properties and spectrum of in vitro activity of biapenem. The results of comparative clinical trials on Biapenem are also described, as is the patient safety and tolerability observed during these studies.

Recently, a new bacterial disease was detected on cucumber stalks. In order to study the pathogenesis of this disease, the pathogenic bacteria were isolated and identified on the basis of morphological and molecular characteristics, and further analyzed for pathogenicity and antagonistic evaluation. Pathogenicity analysis showed that HlJ-3 caused melting decay and cracking in cucumber stems, and the strain reisolated from re-infected cucumber stalks was morphologically identical to HlJ-3 colonies, which is consistent with the Koch's postulates.

Background: Intestinal parasitic infections are a significant public health concern, especially among food handlers, who can transmit these infections to the public through food preparation and handling. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the pooled prevalence and associated factors of intestinal parasitic infections among food handlers in the East African region.
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis on intestinal parasitic infections among food handlers involved a comprehensive search across various databases, including Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and the institution's library registers.

The rise of antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms (AMR) poses a significant global challenge to human health and economic stability. In response, various scientific communities are seeking safe alternatives to antibiotics. This study comprehensively investigates the antibacterial effects of red dye derived from Monascus purpureus against three bacterial pathogens: Salmonella typhimurium ATCC14028, Escherichia coli ATCC8739, and Enterococcus faecalis ATCC25923.

Within ovarian cancer research, patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models recapitulate histologic features and genomic aberrations found in original tumors. However, conflicting data from published studies have demonstrated significant transcriptional differences between PDXs and original tumors, challenging the fidelity of these models. We employed a quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomic approach coupled with generation of patient-specific databases using RNA-seq data to investigate the proteogenomic landscape of serially-passaged PDX models established from two patients with distinct subtypes of ovarian cancer.
