We report here a mechanistically distinct approach to achieve Suzuki-Miyaura-type cross-couplings between alkyl iodides and aryl organoborons. This process requires a copper catalyst but, in contrast with previous approaches based on palladium and nickel systems, does not utilizes the metal for the activation of the alkyl electrophile. Instead, this strategy exploits the halogen-atom-transfer ability of α-aminoalkyl radicals to convert secondary alkyl iodides into the corresponding alkyl radicals that then are coupled with aryl, vinyl, alkynyl, benzyl, and allyl boronate species. These novel coupling reactions feature a simple setup and conditions (1 h at room temperature) and facilitate access to privileged motifs targeted by the pharmaceutical sector.

Aryl triflates make up a class of aryl electrophiles that are available in a single step from the corresponding phenol. Despite the known reactivity of nickel complexes for aryl C-O bond activation of phenol derivatives, nickel-catalyzed cross-electrophile coupling using aryl triflates has proven challenging. Herein, we report a method to form C(sp)-C(sp) bonds by coupling aryl triflates with alkyl bromides and chlorides using phenanthroline (phen) or pyridine-2,6-bis(-cyanocarboxamidine) (PyBCam)-ligated nickel catalysts.

The addition of organic cationic iodides to form low-dimensional perovskite is an essential strategy for defect passivation in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Specially, the 2D/3D perovskite structure can combine the stability of 2D perovskite and the high charge transport performance of 3D perovskite. Here, we introduced phenylammonium hydroiodide salts with different alkyl chain lengths into PSCs precursor solution to research the influence on formation of perovskite thin films and the photovoltaic performance of PSCs.

Primary and secondary alkyl iodides and primary alkyl bromides were quickly and conveniently converted into their corresponding alkyl chlorides via S2 halide-halide substitution. The resultant alkyl chlorides simultaneously demonstrated increased volatility and stability paired with standard headspace GC-FID methodology. The derivatization was performed on both standard and sample alike and occurred during the headspace oven equilibration phase, eliminating the extra reaction step traditionally performed during many derivatization analyses.

Thirteen imidazolium iodides bearing benzyl, mesityl, or 2,6-diisopropylphenyl substituents on their nitrogen atoms, and C-C alkyl chains on their C2 carbon atom were readily deuterated with DO as a cheap and non-toxic deuterium source in the presence of CsCO, a weak, innocuous, inorganic base. The isotopic exchange proceeded quickly and efficiently under mild, aerobic conditions to afford a range of aNHC and NHO precursors regioselectively labeled on their C2α exocyclic position and/or C4=C5 heterocyclic backbone. A "carbene-free" mechanism was postulated, in which the carbonate anion acts as a catalyst to activate an exocyclic, acidic C-H bond and ease a deuterium transfer from DO to the imidazolium salt in a concerted fashion.
