Glyco disulfide gold nanoparticles (GDAuNPs) were prepared by three methods: direct, photochemical irradiation and ligand substitution. Glyco disulfide acted as reducing and capping agents of gold ions, to produce AuNPs . Shorter chains of glyco disulfides (n = 1 and 2) offered monodispersed and stable GDAuNPs in physiological pH, while longer chains (n = 3) furnished unstable nanoparticles. ζ-potential study of direct method GDAuNPs revealed surface charge dependency on the alkyl unit length. Transmission electron microscope imaging indicated that sizes/shapes of the ligand exchange AuNPs remained post-exchange step. The mechanism of GDAuNP formation was forecast as the Ostwald ripening effect at low pH of ligand (5.1-8.9) and reinforcement of static stabilization at high pH (12.4-13.0). GDAuNPs recorded moderately anticancer activity against the A549 cancer cell line, with IC between 14.95 and 64.95 μg/ml.

Allicin (diallyl thiosulfinate) is an abundant bioactive compound in garlic (Allium sativum L.) with broad-spectrum antiinflammatory, antifungal, antioxidant, and antitumor properties. The bioactive compounds of garlic including allicin may also help reduce the incidence of various diseases, although the individual contributions and precise mechanisms are still largely unknown.

The acidic lipase from Rasamsonia emersonii named LIPR has great potential for biodiesel synthesis due to its strong methanol tolerance. Nonetheless, the limited thermostability of LIPR and low expression level in Escherichia coli remain major obstacles to its use in biodiesel synthesis. To enhance the thermostability, the mutant LIPR harboring mutations A126C-P238C for the formation of a new disulfide bond and amino acid substitution D214L was obtained through rational design.

Protein disulfide isomerase-A1 (PDIA1) is a master regulator of oxidative protein folding and proteostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). However, PDIA1 can reach the extracellular space, impacting thrombosis and other pathophysiological phenomena. Whether PDIA1 is externalized via passive release or active secretion is not known.

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeats are present in various proteins and form well-defined structures with three disulfide bonds. One representative protein is the Notch receptor. Each EGF repeat contains unique atypical -linked glycans, such as -linked N-acetylglucosamine (-GlcNAc).
