A visible-light-mediated late-stage sulfonylation of anilines with sulfonamides under simple reaction conditions is presented. Various primary or secondary sulfonamides including several pharmaceuticals were incorporated successfully via N-S bond activation and C-H bond sulfonylation. The synthetic utility of this strategy is highlighted by the construction of complex anilines bearing diverse bioactive groups.
Although the radical hydroboration of alkenes with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) borane is well documented, the radical hydroboration of alkynes, especially terminal alkynes, remains challenging. Herein, a photoredox-catalyzed radical -hydroboration of alkynes with NHC borane has been developed, which provided various alkenyl boron compounds in moderate to good yields. This protocol exhibits a broad substrate scope, as both internal and terminal alkynes were compatible.
Through the energy transfer process, mild transformations can be achieved that are often difficult to realize under thermodynamic conditions. Herein, a visible-light-driven deoxygenative coupling of 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds for C-O, C-S, and C-N bonds construction is developed via triplet state 1,2-dicarbonyls, affording a wide range of α-functionalized ketones/esters under transition-metal and external photocatalyst free conditions. The usefulness of this method is demonstrated by gram-scale synthesis, late-stage functionalization of various carboxylic acid drugs, and the synthesis of natural products and drug molecules.
Within most tissues, the extracellular microenvironment provides mechanical cues that guide cell fate and function. Changes in the extracellular matrix such as aberrant deposition, densification and increased crosslinking are hallmarks of late-stage fibrotic diseases that often lead to organ dysfunction. Biomaterials have been widely used to mimic the mechanical properties of the fibrotic matrix and study cell function.

We disclose herein a novel and general radical approach to alkylthiopurines, encompassing 4 types of thiopurines, as well as their corresponding ribosides. This strategy is achieved through visible light-mediated late-stage functionalization of the sulfur atoms of mercaptopurines. The in situ-generated disulfide was proposed as the pivotal neutral intermediate for this transformation.
Sulfilimines and their derivatives have garnered considerable interest in both synthetic and medicinal chemistry. Photochemical nitrene transfer to sulfides is known as a conventional synthetic approach to sulfilimines. However, the existing methods have a limited substrate scope stemming from the incompatibility of singlet nitrene intermediates with nucleophilic functional groups.
