Background: South Africa (SA) is a resource-limited country that needs efficient operating theatres in order for surgical care to function cost-effectively. Regular assessment of theatre efficiency in our setting is therefore needed.

Purpose: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) while driving is a major international public health issue resulting in a more than doubled risk of motor vehicle accidents (MVAs). Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most frequent medical cause of EDS. Therefore, the European Union Directive 2014/85/EU determined that "untreated moderate to severe OSA coincident with EDS constitutes a medical disorder leading to unfitness to drive.

The antitumor activity of activated CD8+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment seems to be limited due to their being metabolically unfit. This metabolic unfitness is closely associated with T-cell exhaustion and impairment of memory formation, which are barriers to successful antitumor adoptive immunotherapy. We therefore assessed the role of glutamine metabolism in the antitumor activity of CD8 T cells using a tumor-inoculated mouse model.
