A series of different cores and nuclearity zinc metal clusters - have been synthesized using Zn(ClO)·6HO, Schiff-base primary ligands, and dibenzoyl methane (DBM) or monoethanolamine (MEA) as co-ligand in a room-temperature reaction. The structure of the complexes is characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Among them, () [Zn(L1)(DBM)] is mononuclear; () [Zn(L2)(DBM)], () [Zn(L2)(HO)(ClO)]·2CHCl, and () [Zn(L3)(DBM)] have a cubane core; and () [Zn(L4)(MEA)(ClO)] has a ladderlike core structure. Compounds - have also been characterized using UV-vis absorption and emission spectroscopies. For an in-depth understanding of the absorption spectra of and , density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed, which suggest that the transitions correspond to the → * intraligand charge transfer (ILCT) transitions.

Carbon-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) have the advantages of high stability and low cost, but their mean efficiency has become an obstacle to commercialization. Defects, which are widely distributed on the surface and bulk of films, are an important factor in C-PSCs for low efficiency. The conventional post-treatment method through forming a low-dimensional (LD) perovskite layer usually fails in manipulating the bulk defects.

Microenvironment-induced programmable nanotherapeutics restore mitochondrial dysfunction for the amelioration of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Acta Biomater

Key Laboratory of Endocrine Glucose & Lipids Metabolism and Brain Aging, Ministry of Education; Department of Endocrinology, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, Jinan, Shandong, 250021, China; Shandong Key Laboratory of Endocrinology and Lipid Metabolism, Jinan, Shandong, 250021, China; Shandong Engineering Laboratory of Prevention and Control for Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Jinan, Shandong, 250021, China. Electronic address:

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a metabolic liver disorder with severe complications. Mitochondrial dysfunction due to over-opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) in liver cells plays a central role in the development and progression of NAFLD. Restoring mitochondrial function is a promising strategy for NAFLD therapy.

Codon bias, nucleotide selection, and genome size predict in situ bacterial growth rate and transcription in rewetted soil.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

January 2025

Physical and Life Sciences Directorate, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA 94550.

In soils, the first rain after a prolonged dry period represents a major pulse event impacting soil microbial community function, yet we lack a full understanding of the genomic traits associated with the microbial response to rewetting. Genomic traits such as codon usage bias and genome size have been linked to bacterial growth in soils-however, often through measurements in culture. Here, we used metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) with O-water stable isotope probing and metatranscriptomics to track genomic traits associated with growth and transcription of soil microorganisms over one week following rewetting of a grassland soil.

In Situ Self-Assembled Naringin/ZIF-8 Nanoparticle-Embedded Bacterial Cellulose Sponges for Infected Diabetic Wound Healing.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Institute of Nano and Biopolymeric Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai 201804, China.

The treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) represents a significant challenge due to the complexity of the wound microenvironment. Several factors, including infection, inflammation, and impaired angiogenesis, can complicate the healing process and reduce the effectiveness of current clinical treatments. To address these challenges, this work develops a multifunctional sponge containing a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8/bacterial cellulose (ZIF-8/BC) matrix loaded with the antioxidant naringin (Nar).

An In Situ Oxidative Polymerization Method to Synthesize Mesoporous Polypyrrole/MnO Composites for Supercapacitors.

Molecules

December 2024

Alan G. MacDiarmid Institute, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, 2699 Qianjin Street, Changchun 130012, China.

Manganese dioxide (MnO) shows great potential in the field of electrochemical performance. But its poor conductivity, easy dissolution in electrolytes and undesirable ionic accessibility hinder its application. The construction of mesoporous polypyrrole/manganese dioxide (PPy/MnO) composites can effectively alleviate these problems.
