Conversion of Calcium Citrate to Citric Acid with Compressed CO.

Citric acid is mainly produced in the fermentation industry, which needs complex processes and produces a high amount of CaSO as waste. In this study, CO has been used to convert calcium citrate to citric acid and CaCO by controlling the reaction parameters (reactants ratio, temperature, and pressure). The CaCO produced in this conversion could further be used in the fermentation industry for citric acid production. The transformation condition has been optimized by controlling temperature, pressure, reaction time, and mass ratio of calcium citrate and water. The highest conversion could reach up to 94.7% under optimal experimental conditions of 18 MPa of pressure, 65 °C of reaction temperature, 4 h of reaction time, and 2 g/L of calcium citrate/water suspension solution. This method features simple process, easy separation of citric acid, and environmentally friendly process, which could be a potentially alternative route for downstream treatment in fermentation production of citric acid.

Weaning is essential for foal growth and development. We determined the intestinal flora structure of donkey foals at the end of weaning (PreW_4d) and three stages after weaning (PostW_4d, PostW_8d, and PostW_15d) to explore the effects of weaning on intestinal development of donkey foals. The results showed that the main microbial flora in the gut of the donkey foal were Firmicutes and Bacteroides, and the proportion of Firmicutes gradually increased with weaning, which was an important reflection of the donkey foal's adaptability to the transition from lactose liquid feed to plant fiber solid feed.

The hydrothermal synthesis is presented of copper-doped carbon dots (Cu-CDs) from citric acid, urea, and copper chloride, resulting in blue-fluorescent particles with stable emission at 438 nm when excited at 340 nm. Through comprehensive spectroscopic and microscopic characterization (FTIR, XPS, UV, and HRTEM), the Cu-CDs demonstrated remarkable stability across varying pH levels, ionic strengths, temperatures, and UV exposure. Notably, Cu-CDs exhibit ultra-sensitive and selective detection of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] ions in aqueous environments driven by fluorescence quenching.
