A generalized case-cohort design has been used when measuring exposures is expensive and events are not rare in the full cohort. This design collects expensive exposure information from a (stratified) randomly selected subset from the full cohort, called the subcohort, and a fraction of cases outside the subcohort. For the full cohort study with competing risks, He et al. (Scand J Stat 43:103-122, 2016) studied the non-stratified proportional subdistribution hazards model with covariate-dependent censoring to directly evaluate covariate effects on the cumulative incidence function. In this paper, we propose a stratified proportional subdistribution hazards model with covariate-adjusted censoring weights for competing risks data under the generalized case-cohort design. We consider a general class of weight functions to account for the generalized case-cohort design. Then, we derive the optimal weight function which minimizes the asymptotic variance of parameter estimates within the general class of weight functions. The proposed estimator is shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed. The simulation studies show (i) the proposed estimator with covariate-adjusted weight is unbiased when the censoring distribution depends on covariates; and (ii) the proposed estimator with the optimal weight function gains parameter estimation efficiency. We apply the proposed method to stem cell transplantation and diabetes data sets.

Background: In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as South Africa, there is paucity of data on SARS-CoV-2 infections among children attending school, including seroprevalence and transmission dynamics.
Objective: This pilot study aims to assess (1) the prevalence of self-reported or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 prior infections, COVID-19 symptoms (including long COVID), seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and general/mental health, (2) longitudinal changes in SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence, and (3) SARS-CoV-2 acute infections, immune responses, transmission dynamics, and symptomatic versus asymptomatic contacts in a unique cohort of unvaccinated primary school learners, their parents, teachers, and close contacts in semirural primary school settings.
Methods: Learners (grades 1-7) from primary schools in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, their parents, and teachers will be invited to enroll into the COVID kids school study (CoKiDSS).

Background/objectives: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a leading cause of hospitalisations worldwide. Micronutrient deficiencies may influence CAP risk and severity, but their impact on CAP outcomes remains unclear. This study investigated the influence of multivitamin use on hospital length of stay (LOS), intensive care unit (ICU) admission, in-hospital mortality, and 30-day readmissions in hospitalised CAP patients.

Introduction: Households are increasingly studied in population health research as an important context for understanding health and social behaviours and outcomes. Identifying household units of analysis in routinely collected data rather than traditional surveys requires innovative and standardised tools, which do not currently exist.
Objectives: To design a utility that identifies households at a point in time from pseudonymised Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) known as Residential Anonymised Linkage Fields (RALFs) assigned to general practitioner (GP) patient addresses in electronic health records (EHRs) in north east London (NEL).

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the association between inflammatory cytokines and the risk of gastric cancer (GC).
Materials And Methods: We conducted a case-cohort study using Korean National Cancer Center Community (KNCCC) cohort data to investigate the associations between pro-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory cytokines, inflammatory mediators, and GC risk in the Korean general population (GC cases: n=159, subcohort: n=822). Serum levels of inflammatory cytokines were measured using Quantikine® ELISA and analyzed using a Cox proportional hazards regression model.

In the search for effective treatments for refractive obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), deep brain stimulation (DBS) serves as an alternative option for those with minimal response to pharmacotherapy. The rarity of reports regarding DBS use for OCD is attributed to the invasive nature of the procedure: placement of electrodes within targeted areas of the brain to provide neuromodulation. This treatment of last resort may decrease functional impairment and pharmacologic complications for a debilitating mental illness.
