Background: Prospective ECG-triggered cardiac computed tomography (CT) imaging limits the ability to assess left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF). We previously developed a new index derived from LV volume changes over 100 ms during systole (LVEF) as a surrogate of LV function in patients undergoing prospective ECG-triggered cardiac CT. We sought to evaluate the prognostic value of LVEF.

Background: The importance of albuminuria as opposed to proteinuria in predicting kidney outcomes in primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is not well established.
Methods: From 2010 to 2012, 421 patients with biopsy-proven IgAN have been enrolled into the German Chronic Kidney Disease (GCKD) cohort, a prospective observational cohort study ( = 5217). Adjudicated endpoints include a composite kidney endpoint (CKE) consisting of eGFR decline >40%, eGFR <15 ml/min/1.

Background: Trauma is a leading cause of global death, with 200 000 deaths and over 3 million non-fatal injuries/year in the United States. We aim to assess trauma care value for patients who underwent urgent laparotomies (LAP) and thoracotomies (THO) in our Health Network System.
Methods: Clinical variables (v = 84) from trauma patients (>18 yo) were retrieved retrospectively (Jan-2010 to July-2016) and prospectively (Aug-2016 to Sept-2021) from a Health System warehouse under IRB-approved protocols.

Despite the success of antiretroviral therapy (ART), individuals with HIV remain at risk for experiencing non-AIDS adverse events (NAEs), including cardiovascular complications and malignancy. Several surrogate immune biomarkers in blood have shown predictive value in predicting NAEs; however, composite panels generated using machine learning may provide a more accurate advancement for monitoring and discriminating NAEs. In a nested case-control study, we aimed to develop machine learning models to discriminate cases (experienced an event) and matched controls using demographic and clinical characteristics alongside 49 plasma immunoproteins measured prior to and post-ART initiation.

Background: The Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance (METS-IR) index serves as a simple surrogate marker for insulin resistance (IR) and is associated with the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the prognostic significance of METS-IR in patients with premature CAD remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the prognostic value of METS-IR in premature CAD.
