We present a coherently combined femtosecond fiber chirped-pulse-amplification system based on a rod-type, ytterbium-doped, multicore fiber with 4 × 4 cores. A high average power of up to 500 W (after combination and compression) could be achieved at 10 MHz repetition rate with excellent beam quality. Additionally, < 500 fs pulses with up to 600 µJ of pulse energy were also realized with this setup. This architecture is intrinsically power scalable by increasing the number of cores in the fiber.

(Eu[PTC])(Eu[TREN-1,2-HOPO]) inorganic-organic hybrid nanoparticles (IOH-NPs) contain Eu, tris[(1-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-6-carboxamido)ethyl]amine (TREN-1,2-HOPO) and perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylate (PTC). The IOH-NPs are prepared in water and exhibit a rod-type shape, with a length of 60 nm and a diameter of 5 nm. Particle size and chemical composition are examined by different methods (SEM, DLS, FT-IR, TG, C/H/N analysis).

The use of heterojunction photocatalysts for pollutant decomposition has garnered significant interest in mitigating water contamination and environmental pollution. Our present study focuses on synthesizing BiO/SbS heterojunction photocatalyst having variable mole ratios by employing a hydrothermal technique. Loading SbS onto BiO enables broad-spectrum solar light absorption, efficient segregation of charges, and enhanced surface area, which are excellent traits for photocatalysis.

In this study, we successfully isolated strains with high protease activity from deep-sea mineral water in Korea and used them to obtain functional peptide fractions from chia seeds. The obtained strains showed a high similarity of 99% with with a long rod type (named 5-DSW) and high protease activity at 40 °C, and 70% of the activity remained even at 70 °C. The defatted chia seed protein (15-50 kDa) was treated with crude protease from 5-DSW and digested into small peptides below 20 kDa.

We report on a highly efficient, in-band pumped, Q-switched, Tm-doped, rod-type master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system delivering up to 140 W average output power and 7 mJ pulse energy with a slope efficiency of 77% at 20 kHz repetition rate. The amplifier is pumped with Raman-shifted fiber lasers centered at 1692 nm. This in-band pump scheme for Tm-doped fiber lasers can significantly mitigate their quantum defect-related heat load limitations.
