Purpose: This study evaluates the motor development of patients undergoing three or more repeated Botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) applications in a tertiary pediatric hospital as well as the safety of three different types of anesthesia.

Methods: Seventy-five children who underwent BoNT-A applications at least three consecutive times at six-month intervals and a total of 320 procedures were examined. Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) was employed in motor development evaluation. The three anesthesia methods (sedation analgesia, anesthesia with larengeal mask [LMA] and inhalation mask) were compared in terms of sedation, procedure, recovery, and total operation room time.

Results: Following the procedures, significant motor development was observed in 60 (80%) patients. In sedation analgesia group during the first three procedures, the recovery time was seen to be significantly shorter, while there was no difference between the anesthesia methods of any procedures following the fourth. Regardless of the type of anesthesia, the recovery times of those having undergone six or more procedures were longer than those with less than six procedures.

Conclusions: As repeated BoNT-A application provides motor step progress, it can be applied safely and effectively under anesthesia. Sedation analgesia provides an easier recovery compared to LMA and mask only within the first three applications. However, recovery time increases with four or more repeated applications, specifically increasing as the number of applications increases.

Level Of Evidence: III.

The BEN domain protein LIN-14 coordinates neuromuscular positioning during epidermal maturation.

Development and function of an organism depend on coordinated inter-tissue interaction. How such interactions are maintained during tissue renewal and reorganization remains poorly understood. Here, we find that BEN domain transcription factor LIN-14 is required in epidermis for maintaining the position of motor neurons and muscles during developmental tissue reorganization.

Introduction: For individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) such as autism, Down syndrome, or cerebral palsy, learning to express with language is a two-fold challenge because atypical cognitive capacity is compounded by sensorimotor coordination deficits. One approach to assisting linguistic expression in these individuals is to physically support them, for example, by touching their torso or arm as they type. The neurophysiological mechanism of such motor assistance for linguistic expression is not known, but recently it has been proposed that light touch may reduce the cognitive load associated with the sensorimotor coordination of typing, thereby releasing shared cognitive resources to the task of generating content.

Purpose: Fractures pose a significant global health challenge, with varying incidence trends and causes across demographics and regions. This study aims to analyze global patterns in the incidence and primary causes of femoral shaft fractures.

Methods: Data from the Global Burden of Disease database were analyzed for femoral fractures (excluding femoral neck fractures) by age, gender, and socio-demographic index regions.

Introduction: Soft-tissue sarcomas arising in the thigh may require total or subtotal compartmentectomy, with subsequent need for functional reconstruction with free functional muscle transfer (FFMT). We present our series, describing a new approach with chimeric propeller antero-lateral thigh-vastus lateralis (ALT-VL) free flap, which allows for independent muscle inset and soft tissue defect resurfacing.

Patient And Methods: A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database was performed, analyzing all patients referred to Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, Rome, Italy, between 2018 and 2023 for soft-tissue sarcomas of the thigh requiring wide excision and reconstruction with functional ALT-VL.

Background: Restricted and repetitive behavior (RRB) is a core symptom of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The structure of RRB subcategories and their relationship with atypical sensory processing in Japan are not well understood. This study examined subcategories of the RRB in Japanese children with ASD and explored their relationship with sensory processing.
