To identify and describe validated assessment tools that measure cultural competence and are relevant to pharmacy education. A systematic approach was used to identify quantitative cultural competence assessment tools relevant to pharmacy education. A systematic search of the literature was conducted using the OVID and EBSCO databases and a manual search of journals deemed likely to include tools relevant to pharmacy education. To be eligible for the review, the tools had to be developed using a study sample from the United States, have at least one peer-reviewed validated publication, be applicable to the pharmacy profession, and be published since 2010. The systematic literature and manual search identified 27 tools. Twelve assessment tools met the criteria to be included in the summary and their relevancy to pharmacy education is discussed. A review of literature demonstrates that assessment tools vary widely and there is no one tool that can effectively assess all aspects of cultural competence in pharmacy students or the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. As cultural competence is a priority within the accreditation standards for pharmacy education, PharmD programs are encouraged to develop additional tools that measure observed performance.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines of the Changbai Mountain, Ministry of Education, Yanbian University College of Pharmacy, Yanji, P.R. China.

Two new phytoecdysteroids, (24)-20,26-dihydroxy-24(28)-dehydro-28-methyl-ecdysone (), (24)-22,25-epoxy-2,3,14,20-tetrahydroxyergosta-7,24(28)-dien-28-methyl-6-one (), together with eleven known compounds (-) were isolated from the whole plant of L. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS and compared with data from the literature. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on NO, TNF-α and IL-6 production in LPS-induced RAW 264.

CircRNA CDR1AS promotes cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice by triggering cardiomyocyte autosis.

J Mol Med (Berl)

January 2025

Cardiovascular Surgery Department of The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, and Pharmacology Department of Pharmacy College of Harbin Medical University, Harbin, 150081, China.

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury is a common adverse event in the clinical treatment of myocardial ischemic disease. Autosis is a form of cell death that occurs when autophagy is excessive in cells, and it has been associated with cardiac IR damage. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory mechanism of circRNA CDR1AS on autosis in cardiomyocytes under IR.

Tangerine peel is a traditional Chinese herb and has been widely applied in foods and medicine for its multiple pharmacological effects. Erythropoietin receptor (EPOR), a member of the cytokine receptor family, is widely expressed in multiple tissues in especial kidney and plays protective effects in adverse physiological and pathological conditions. We hypothesized that it might be EPOR agonists existing in Tangerine peel bring such renal benefits.

Background: To ensure the complete traceability of healthcare commodities, robust end-to-end data management protocols are needed for the supply chain. In Ethiopia, digital tools like Dagu-2 are used in the lower levels of the healthcare supply chain. However, there is a lack of information regarding the implementation status, factors, and challenges of Dagu-2, as it is a recent upgrade from the offline Dagu-1 application.
