Nosomma monstrosum Nuttall & Warburton, 1908 is a hard tick infesting mainly Asian water buffaloes, but it has also been recorded from cattle, horses, bears, dogs, wild boar and humans in the Oriental region. This tick species has previously not been recorded from Pakistan. A total of 15 adult N. monstrosum ticks (five females and ten males) were collected from an Asian water buffalo herd grazing in Haripur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. Molecular characterization using partial 12S, 16S rRNA, and cytochrome c oxidase 1 (cox1) gene sequences confirmed the identity as N. monstrosum. A phylogenetic analysis showed that N. monstrosum from Pakistan is closely related to specimens reported from Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

A novel aerobic marine bacterium, FRT2, isolated from surface water of a fishing port in Fukui, Japan, was characterised based on phylogenomic and phylogenetic analyses combined with classical phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characterisations. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain FRT2 clustered with genus Leeuwenhoekiella. Closest relatives of FRT2 were Leeuwenhoekiella palythoae KMM 6264 and Leeuwenhoekiella nanhaiensis G18 with 16S rRNA gene sequence identities of 95.

The biological applications of noncationic porphyrin-fullerene (P-F) dyads as anti-HIV agents have been limited despite the established use of several cationic P-F dyads as anti-cancer photodynamic therapy (PDT) agents. This article explores the potential of amphiphilic non-cationic porphyrin-fullerene dyads as HIV-1 inhibitors under both PDT (light-treated) and non-PDT (dark) conditions. The amphiphilic P-F dyads, PBC and PBC, demonstrated enhanced efficacy in inhibiting the entry and production of HIV-1 (subtypes B and C).
