Abstract: This study was conducted to investigate the UV light-induced effect of chitosan-titanium dioxide-silver (CTS-TiO2-Ag) nanocomposite film solution against Penicillium steckii and the underlying physiological mechanism of this effect. With longer UV exposure time, pathogen inhibition increased. UV-photoinduced treatment for 120 min produced the smallest P. steckii colony diameter, at 4.85 mm. However, when this treatment was followed by 8 h of storage, the conductivity of the P. steckii culture medium reached its highest level, at 713 microsiemens per cm. After a 120-h growth period on mangoes under the same conditions, the lesion diameters and proportion of infected mangoes reached 12.61 mm and 41.67%, respectively. Because the P. steckii cell membrane was severely disrupted, its permeability increased, causing serious extravasation of intracellular protein and nucleic acid material. Malondialdehyde, catalase, and superoxide dismutase in the P. steckii cells reached maximum concentrations (2.1106 μmol/mL, 44.06 U/mL, and 24.67 U/mL, respectively) after 8 h of incubation. These results indicate significant P. steckii inhibition by the UV light induction of the CTS-TiO2-Ag nanocomposite film solution.

Polyimide (PI)-based gas separation membranes are of great interest in the field of H purification owing to their good thermal stability, chemical stability, and mechanical properties. Among polyimide-based membranes, intrinsically microporous polyimides are easily soluble in common organic solvents, showing great potential for fabricating hollow fiber gas separation membranes. However, based on the solution-diffusion model, improving the free volume or the movability of polymer chains can improve gas permeability, but would result in poor thermal stability.

Bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) stands as a highly promising layered semiconductor with outstanding optical, electrical, and thermal properties. For the practical application of the material toward the devices, growing BiOSe directly on the amorphous substrate at low temperatures (<400 °C) is essential; however, the negatively charged bottom Se layer originating from alternating stacks of Se and [BiO] has hindered this process. In this work, we report the method for synthesizing a BiOSe film on amorphous alumina (AlO) directly at 350 °C by using chemical solution deposition.

Nickel alloys are widely used in the oil and gas industry where high corrosion resistance in chloride water or in sour environments is required. When high mechanical properties are required in combination with high corrosion properties, alloy 718 (UNS N07718) is one of the preferred choices, although it still presents limitations in terms of corrosion resistance in some applications: despite offering outstanding resistance to localized corrosion, alloy 718 is not immune to it. Its high corrosion resistance is mainly due to its high nickel and chromium contents combined with additions of molybdenum and other noble elements.

Stable Operation of Copper-Protected La(FeMnSi)H Regenerators in a Magnetic Cooling Unit.

ACS Appl Eng Mater

Magnotherm Solutions GmbH, Pfungstädter Straße 102, 64297 Darmstadt, Germany.

Magnetic refrigeration leads the current commercialization efforts of ambient caloric cooling technologies, is considered among its peers most promising in terms of anticipated energy efficiency gain, and allows for complete elimination of harmful coolants. By now, functional magnetocaloric components (so-called regenerators) based on Mn-substituted and hydrogenated LaFeSi alloys are commercially available. However, this alloy system exhibits magnetostriction, is susceptible to fracture, oxidation, and does not passivate well, rendering it prone to failure and corrosion, particularly when using water as favorable heat exchange medium.

Antimicrobial biodegradable packaging films from phosphorylated starch: A sustainable solution for plastic waste.

Carbohydr Res

Institute of Integrated & Honors Studies, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, 136119, Haryana, India. Electronic address:

This study focused on developing biodegradable packaging films based on starch as an alternative to non-biodegradable such as petroleum-derived synthetic polymers. To improve its physicochemical properties, potato starch was chemically modified through phosphorylation. Starch phosphorylation was carried out using cyclic 1,3-propanediol phosphoryl chloride (CPPC), produced phosphorylated starch (PS), and analyzed using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
