Natural killer activity of pregnant women's peripheral blood lymphocytes and of cord blood was investigated. 3H-uridine labeled K-562 and human embryo fibroblasts (HEF) were used as target cells in cytotoxic test. The results of competitive inhibition test led us to a conclusion about the presence of some common K-562 and HEF surface structures recognized by NK cells. It was shown that the decline of NK activity of pregnant women and a low NK activity of cord blood were not associated with the influence of T-lymphocytes or adherent cells.

The utilization of exogenous fiber-degrading enzymes in commercial swine diets is a strategy to increase the nutrient and energy density of poorly digestible ingredients. In a prior set of studies, dietary multienzyme blend (MEblend) supplementation increased the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients, non-starch polysaccharides, and energy in complete high-fibrous gestation diets by 6% when fed to gestating sows. The current study aimed to determine the effects of MEblend (containing xylanase, β-glucanase, cellulase, amylase, protease, pectinase, and invertase activities) supplementation on ATTD of energy and nutrients of individual feedstuffs commonly used in gestating sow diets across major pork-producing regions worldwide, which differ in their fibrous components.

Distinct TYRO3 and PROS1 expression levels contribute to preeclampsia pathogenesis.

Histochem Cell Biol

January 2025

Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine, Akdeniz University, Antalya, Turkey.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe placental complication occurring after the 20th week of pregnancy. PE is associated with inflammation and an increased immune reaction against the fetus. TYRO3 and PROS1 suppress inflammation by clearing apoptotic cells.

Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) induces a multitude of actions and consequences in bone and cartilage resorption and immune response augmentation. In this research, we aimed to investigate the effects of TNF-α on osteogenesis parameters in newborn mice. Experimental research was conducted on 42 pregnant mice, dividing into seven groups as follows: control (no injection), vehicle 1 (PBS injection on 7-9th pregnancy days (PD)), vehicle 2 (PBS injection during pregnancy), experimental 1 (injection of 10 ng/kg of TNF-α on 7-9th PD), experimental 2 (injection of 100 ng/kg of TNF-α on 7-9th PD), experimental 3 (injection of 10 ng/kg of TNF-α during pregnancy) and experimental 4 (injection of 100 ng/kg of TNF-α during pregnancy).
