Background: Managing medication is complex and multifaceted for people with dementia and their family carers. Despite efforts to support medication management, medication errors and medication-related hospital admissions still occur. This study investigated how people with dementia viewed and talked about their different medications and their medication taking.
Methods: An interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) qualitative research design combining photo elicitation and in-depth interviews was used. People with a diagnosis of mild or moderate dementia took photographs of anything they viewed to be related to medication, with or without the help of family carers, over any two-day period. The photographs were then used as cues for subsequent in-depth interviews, which were analysed using IPA.
Results: Twelve people with dementia were interviewed. Four themes encapsulated the experiences: (1) Medication as a lifeline, (2) Managing medications dominates daily lives and plans, (3) Struggling with uncertainty about the effectiveness of dementia medication and (4) Sense of 'being' and being in control. People with dementia viewed medication as a lifeline, especially donepezil, giving it preference over other daily medication they were using. Managing medications dominated the daily lives and plans of people with dementia and changed the way they viewed themselves and their life. People with dementia continually struggled with the imperceptible benefits of donepezil on their dementia, but despite such uncertainties, continued to take donepezil.
Conclusions: This study provided unique insights into how people with dementia made sense of their medication. Healthcare professionals can use these insights to shape their practice around medication prescribing and advice in dementia. The findings are also useful to researchers looking to develop interventions to support medication management within the home setting.

The growing prevalence of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an increasing public health concern that led to French recommendations for timely AD diagnosis and patient management as well as a territorial coverage of specialized structures [Memory Centers including Resources and Memory Research Centers (RMRC) and Memory Consultations (MC)]. In view of the potential availability of Disease Modifying Therapies (DMTs), this French observatory aimed to describe the current organization of the Memory Centers, and the care pathway of patients suffering from early AD. Overall, 12 of the 28 RMRC and 44 of the 250 MC solicited by the Federation of Memory Centers participated in this study.

Background: Previous meta-analyses have demonstrated osteoarthritis (OA) is associated with an increased risk of dementia, but these studies were prone to bias based on residual confounding factors and reverse causality.
Objectives: We aimed to investigate associations between OA and cognitive function using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and to investigate the causality using Mendelian randomization (MR).
Design: This is a cross-sectional study and MR study.
Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a common factor in age-related diseases such as stroke and dementia, and about half of dementia patients worldwide are caused by CSVD. CSVD-related cognitive impairment (CSVD-CI) affects more and more elderly people, resulting in economic losses and burdens on families and society. In recent years, circulating biomarkers have made breakthroughs and played an increasingly important role in the diagnosis, progression, and prognosis of CSVD-associated cognitive impairment, and are expected to be applied to the early clinical detection, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with cerebral small vessel disease.
