Spatial transcriptomic analysis of adult hippocampal neurogenesis in the human brain.

J Psychiatry Neurosci

October 2024

From the McGill Group for Suicide Studies, Douglas Mental Health University Institute, McGill University, Montréal, Que. (Simard, Rahimian, Antonietta, Théberge, Turecki, Nagy, Mechawar); the School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, Charles Perkins Centre, The University of Sydney, Camperdown, Australia (Matosin); the Department of Psychiatry, McGill University, Montréal, Que. (Turecki, Nagy, Mechawar).

Background: Adult hippocampal neurogenesis has been extensively characterized in rodent models, but its existence in humans remains controversial. We sought to assess the phenomenon in postmortem human hippocampal samples by combining spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed fluorescent in situ hybridization.

Methods: We computationally examined the spatial expression of various canonical neurogenesis markers in postmortem dentate gyrus (DG) sections from young and middle-aged sudden-death males.

Post-transcriptional regulation has emerged as a key mechanism for regulating stem cell renewal and differentiation, which is essential for understanding tissue regeneration and homeostasis. Poly(A)-binding proteins are a family of RNA-binding proteins that play a vital role in post-transcriptional regulation by controlling mRNA stability and protein synthesis. The involvement of poly(A) binding proteins in a wide range of cellular functions is increasingly being investigated.

The aim of this study is to measure young adolescent boys' and girls' attitudes toward uncommitted sexual behaviors and gain insight into their perception of peers' sexual exploration interest in committed versus non-committed opposite-gender relations. We constructed a new 5-item measurement of young adolescents' attitudes toward uncommitted sexual behavior (sociosexuality) and report on the reliability and construct validity of the scale. Analyses were performed on a sample of 425 secondary school students (187 boys, 238 girls, Mean age = 14.

Odontogenic carcinoma with dentinoid: case report and literature review of a rare entity.

BMC Oral Health

June 2024

State Key Laboratory of Oral & Maxillofacial Reconstruction & Regeneration, Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedicine Ministry of Education, Hubei Key Laboratory of Stomatology, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.

Background: Odontogenic carcinoma with dentinoid (OCD) is a rare and controversial entity, which has not yet been included in the current World Health Organization classification of odontogenic lesions. Owing to the small number of reported cases, the clinicopathological characteristics, biological behavior, prognosis, and appropriate treatment strategies for OCD remain to be defined. Herein, we present an additional case of OCD with a focus on the differential diagnosis and review of the pertinent literature, in order to enable better recognition by oral clinicians and pathologists and further characterization of this entity.

Decisions made over long time scales, such as life cycle decisions, require coordinated interplay between sensory perception and sustained gene expression. The dauer (or diapause) exit developmental decision requires sensory integration of population density and food availability to induce an all-or-nothing organismal-wide response, but the mechanism by which this occurs remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate how the ASJ chemosensory neurons, known to be critical for dauer exit, perform sensory integration at both the levels of gene expression and calcium activity.
