Introduction: given the difficulty to obtain glycemic control in type 2 diabetes, the exploration of others pathophysiological hypotheses could improve the understanding of this phenomenon. We conducted this study to search for an association between uric acid and uncontrolled diabetes.

Methods: it was a cross-sectional study in a population of type 2 diabetes with normal postprandial and fast blood sugar for the last three months at the District Hospital of Dschang. Chi square test were used to analyzed categorical variables and Pearson correlation coefficient to evaluate the relationship between uric acid level and HbA1c. Means were compared using Kruskal-Walli's or Student's test.

Results: our study of 80 patients found that, female sex and central obesity were risk factors for hyperuricemia. Prevalence of hyperuricemia and uncontrolled diabetes was respectively 27.5% and 33.8%. The proportion of women with hyperuricemia was significantly higher than that of men (59.1% versus 40.9%, p=0.021) and this inequality of proportion was more marked particularly after 45 years (40% versus 18.8%, p=0.022). Hyperuricemia was not significantly associated to uncontrolled diabetes (OR=2.01 IC (0.73-5.52), p=0.095). Serum uric acid was positively and significantly correlated to glycated hemoglobin (r=0.318, p=0.002) and hyperuricemia was significantly correlated to uncontrolled diabetes (r=0.712, p=0.035). The mean of glycated hemoglobin is abnormal (7.14%) when uric acid level is around 5.75 mg/dl without sex distinction.

Conclusion: these results suggest that the rate of glycated hemoglobin is associated to serum uric acid variations during type 2 diabetes.

Analysis of the effect of platelet function and different doses of ticagrelor after flow diverter treatment of intracranial aneurysms.

Neurosurg Rev

January 2025

Neurosurgery Center, Department of Cerebrovascular Surgery, Engineering Technology Research Center of Education Ministry of China on Diagnosis and Treatment of Cerebrovascular Disease, Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Ticagrelor has become the standard drug for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) with flow diverters (FDs), but the dosage has not been standardized. The effect of platelet function on clinical and imaging prognosis remains unclear. This study aimed to show the effects of different doses of ticagrelor and platelet aggregation function on the clinical and imaging prognosis after FDs treatment of aneurysms.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Cepharanthine (CEP) is an alkaloid extracted from Stephania cephalantha Hayata, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) renowned for its heatclearing and dehumidifying properties. For centuries, Stephania cephalantha Hayata has been employed in the treatment of a wide range of diseases, including pain, edema, inflammation, and fever.

Aim Of The Study: Our research aims to investigate the role and mechanism of Cepharanthine in ameliorating uric acid (UA) induced neuroinflammatory responses.

This study was aim to investigate the effects of lipoic acid (ALA) on performance, meat quality, serum biochemistry and antioxidant function of broilers under heat stress (HS). Two hundred1-day-old Cobb broilers were randomly divided into four treatment groups and each treatment consisted of 4 replicates of 10 broilers each. The treatment group adopts a 2 × 2 two-factor setting, which is divided into two diets (basic diet or 250 mg/kg ALA diet) and two temperatures (24 ± 1℃ or 33 ± 1℃).

This meta-analysis investigates the potential of allopurinol to prevent contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), a common and serious complication of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). CIN is particularly prevalent among high-risk populations, including patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or acute coronary syndrome (ACS), where the administration of contrast agents can exacerbate renal injury. Allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, is known for its dual action in reducing oxidative stress and uric acid production, positioning it as a promising therapeutic candidate to mitigate CIN.

Chemical polymerization/oligomerization opens numerous opportunities, from fundamental materials research to practical applications in catalysis, energy, sensing, and medicine. The electrochemical detection of vitamins B (folic acid) and C (ascorbic acid) requires new approaches because of low selectivity, electrode fouling, and interference from other chemicals. As an excellent material for long-term vitamin detection, oligo 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole (oligo DAT) enhances the sensitivity, selectivity, and stability of sensors by creating a stable, conductive layer that facilitates electron transfer and reduces interference from common substances like glucose or uric acid.
