The change in the pinning force during the transition from dry to oil-impregnated thin polymer films is studied for droplets of water and hexadecane. A careful variation of the oil amount in the films is performed by means of supercritical impregnation. The film thickness dependence on the oil content is measured using ellipsometry and compared to gel swelling theory estimates. Depending on the oil content, two cases of pinning force behavior have been identified. For each case, the factors that determine the pinning force are discussed. The pinning force in the transition from dry to equilibrium swollen gel films is well approximated by the Joanny and de Gennes hysteresis model of dilute defects.

Despite the importance of the effect of subnanoscale roughness on contact line behavior, it is difficult to directly observe the local behavior of contact lines at the micro- and nanoscale, leaving significant gaps in our current understanding. In this research, we investigate contact line motions and their relationship with nanoscale surface topography using coherence scanning interferometry. Our experiments were conducted on the substrates with different wettability without changing nanoscale surface topography.

We study a simple model of swarmalators subject to periodic forcing and confined to moving around a one-dimensional ring. This is a toy model for physical systems with a mix of sync, swarming, and forcing, such as colloidal micromotors. We find rich behavior: pinned states where the swarmalators are locked to the driving, sync states where their phases are either identical or have fixed differences, and unsteady states, such as swarmalator chimera where the population splits into two sync dots enclosed by a "train" of swarmalators that run around a peanut-shaped loop.

Background: The anatomy of the proximal tibia presents treatment challenges, and there is currently no widely accepted surgical fixation method for fractures in this region. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, benefits, and differences between intramedullary nailing (IMN) with a 4-hole Limited Contact Dynamic Compression Plate (LC-DCP) combination and IMN with an 8-hole LC-DCP combination in unstable fractures of the proximal metaphyseal region of the tibia.
Methods: An oblique fracture was created in the metaphyseal region, forming a 30-degree angle in the sagittal plane in three tibial models.
