Diffuse dermal angiomatosis is a rare, benign, reactive cutaneous vascular proliferation that has been reported in the context of end-stage renal failure and can rarely be associated with arteriovenous fistulas. We report a striking clinical resolution following prompt diagnosis and subsequent arteriovenous fistula reversal. This case further demonstrates that accurate diagnosis is particularly rewarding since correct therapeutic approach can be curative.

Introduction:  Lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) is an uncommon variant of lichen planus, characterized by the insidious onset of dark brown to gray pigmented macules, mainly in sun-exposed areas and flexural folds. It is mainly reported in Indian, Latino, American, and Middle Eastern patients. This paper aims to document the clinicopathological characteristics of LPP.

A 3-year-old boy presented with an unusual combination of indurated skin, sclerotic plaques with lichenification, and yellowish papules. Histopathology revealed diffuse dermal mucin deposits, and laboratory tests showed a positive throat culture for Group A streptococcus and elevated serum anti-streptolysin titers. An 10-day course of oral amoxicillin was associated with near-complete resolution of all dermatological findings within 4 months.

Detecting Monkeypox Virus by Immunohistochemistry.

J Cutan Pathol

December 2024

Department of Dermatology, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.

Background: Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), a zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox virus (MPXV), has become an international outbreak since May 2022. Mpox often presents with a mild systemic illness and a characteristic vesiculopustular skin eruption. In addition to molecular testing, histopathology of cutaneous lesions usually shows distinctive findings, such as epidermal necrosis, balloon degeneration, papillary dermal edema, and focal dermal necrosis, which have proven helpful in the diagnosis of mpox.

A computational workflow for end-to-end simulation of percutaneous absorption.

Int J Pharm

December 2024

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Surrey, Guildford GU2 7XH, UK.

Purpose: Presented is the development of a workflow for end-to-end (e2e) in silico modelling of percutaneous absorption under a range of test conditions, integrating multiple calculation and analysis steps for in-silico simulation of dermal absorption. The aim is to achieve a digital twin that can be used by non-modelling experts to simulate transdermal permeation.

Methods: A KNIME-based toolbox is used to create the workflow for the E2E in-silico model.

Objectives: Cellular senescence and endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) are profibrotic cellular processes involved in systemic sclerosis (SSc), but how they respond to treatment is largely unknown.

Methods: Skin biopsies from diffuse cutaneous SSc (dcSSc) patients who underwent either autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT) or cyclophosphamide pulse (iv CYC) treatment were collected before and 6 months after randomisation in the Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation International Scleroderma (ASTIS) trial. The extent of fibrosis, inflammation, senescence, EndMT and tissue remodelling were examined in histopathology.
