A novel "water in salt" electrolyte is reported for the design of a rocking-chair proton battery. In 20 M ZnCl + 1 M HCl electrolyte, the electrochemical proton storage performance using MoO is significantly improved. When coupled with a Ni-PBA cathode, the device exhibits a good cycling stability of 76.1% after 400 cycles. This work opens a new avenue for designing low-cost "water in salt" electrolytes for aqueous proton electrochemistry.

Purpose: The present study investigated the effect of unpleasant salty or bitter tastes on cycling sprint performance and knee-extensor force characteristics in different fatigue states.
Methods: Following a familiarization session, 11 trained male cyclists completed 3 experimental trials (salty, bitter, and water) in a randomized crossover order. In each trial, participants cycled at 85% of the respiratory compensation point for 45 minutes and then, after a 5-minute rest, completed a 1-minute sprint.
Faced with the increasingly serious problem of water scarcity, developing precise irrigation strategies for crops in saline alkali land can effectively reduce the negative effects of low water resource utilization. Using a model to simulate the dynamic changes in soil water and salt environment in the root zone of fragrant pear trees in saline alkali land, and verifying them from a production practice perspective with comprehensive benefits as the goal, can optimize the irrigation amount and irrigation technology elements of saline alkali fruit trees, broaden the comprehensive evaluation perspective of decision-makers, and have important significance for improving the yield and production efficiency of forestry and fruit industry in arid and semi-arid areas worldwide. In this study, a two-year field experiment based on three irrigation levels (3000, 3750, and 4500 m·ha) and four emitter discharge rates (1, 2, 3, and 4 L·h) was conducted in Xinjiang, China.

Adrenal insufficiency (AI) is defined as the inability of the adrenal cortex to produce adequate amounts of glucocorticoids and/or mineralocorticoids. As these hormones have important roles in water-salt balance and energy homeostasis, AI is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. Glucocorticoid replacement therapy is vital in all cases of AI.

The effects of alkali-metal ions (Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs) on the vibrational dynamics of the DNA ion-hydration shell were studied through classical molecular dynamics simulations. As a result, the vibrational spectra of the DNA-water-salt systems were calculated within the framework of two approaches, using dipole-dipole and velocity-velocity autocorrelation functions. We dissect the effect of the individual compartments of the DNA double helix (minor groove, major groove, and phosphate groups) on the behavior of the systems.

Synthesis of microbial fuel cell (MFC) cathode catalysts using corn straw with natural multi-channel structure is an useful measure for developing sustainable energy sources and making creative use of agricultural waste. The catalytic performance of nanomaterial catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is clearly influenced by porosity and channel structure. Mesopores usually contribute to the enhancement of reaction kinetics and mass transfer.
