Recent research has emphasized the crucial role of expressive flexibility in mental health. This study extended prior studies by further exploring the mediating mechanism and possible gender differences underlying the association between expressive flexibility and mental health indexed by depression and life satisfaction based on the dual-factor model of mental health. Specifically, we explored whether social support mediated the association between expressive flexibility and depression as well as life satisfaction, and whether there were gender differences in these relationships. A total of 711 voluntary college students (mean age = 20.98 years, = 2.28; 55.70% women) completed a set of scales assessing expressive flexibility, perceived social support, depression, and life satisfaction. Results showed that expressive flexibility had a positive direct effect on life satisfaction and social support mediated this association. Social support also mediated the relationship between expressive flexibility and depression. The mediation effect of social support was robust and consistent in men and women whereas expressive flexibility had a stronger direct effect on depression in women compared to men. The present study contributes to clarifying the relationship between expressive flexibility and mental health from a more comprehensive perspective. Last, the strengths and limitations of this study were discussed.

Unlabelled: Executive functions (EF), including verbal and visuospatial working memory, inhibition, and cognitive flexibility, are associated with academic skills such as copying and producing written texts in school-age children.

Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the association between primary school children's executive function skills and their ability to copy and produce written texts.

Methodology: We included 282 children attending primary school (children in fourth to sixth grade; mean age = 10.

Article Synopsis
  • Early childhood is a crucial time for language development, and this study investigates how phoneme awareness and cognitive flexibility evolve in children aged 4 to 5, focusing on early, intermediate, and late language development patterns.
  • The study involved 439 four-year-olds who underwent various assessments, revealing that early language developers showed greater improvement in language and phonological skills, while intermediate and late developers exhibited steeper increases in cognitive flexibility.
  • The results highlight the interconnectedness of phoneme awareness, cognitive functioning, and language skills, suggesting that interventions for children with language delays should focus on enhancing both literacy and executive function skills.

Spatially Aware Domain Adaptation Enables Cell Type Deconvolution from Multi-Modal Spatially Resolved Transcriptomics.

Spatially Resolved Transcriptomics (SRT) offers unprecedented opportunities to elucidate the cellular arrangements within tissues. Nevertheless, the absence of deconvolution methods that simultaneously model multi-modal features has impeded progress in understanding cellular heterogeneity in spatial contexts. To address this issue, SpaDA is developed, a novel spatially aware domain adaptation method that integrates multi-modal data (i.

Emotion regulation research has routinely pitted the antecedent-focused strategy of cognitive reappraisal against the response-focused strategy of expressive suppression. This research has largely yielded that reappraisal is an effective strategy by which to change emotional experience, but implications of expressive suppression are not as clear. This may be due to variations in experimental methodologies, which have not consistently evaluated suppression against a within-subject control condition, as well as conceptual limitations that have muddled the implications of significant findings.
