Iodine is an essential micronutrient for most of the living beings, including humans. Besides its indispensable role in animals, it also plays an important role in the environment. It undergoes several chemical and biological transformations resulting in the production of volatile methylated iodides, which play a key role in the iodine's global geochemical cycle. Since it can also mitigate the process of climate change, it is reasonable to study its biogeochemistry. Therefore, the aim of this review is to provide information on its origin, global fluxes and mechanisms of production in the environment.

A series of new quinazolin-2,4-dione derivatives incorporating amide/eight-membered nitrogen-heterocycles -, in addition, acylthiourea/amide/dithiolan-4-one and/or phenylthiazolidin-4-one - and -. The starting compound was prepared by reaction of 4-(2,4-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-2-quinazolin-3-yl)-benzoyl chloride with ammonium thiocyanate and cyanoacetic acid hydrazide. The reaction of with strong electrophiles, namely, -aminophenol, -amino thiophenol, and/or -phenylene diamine, resulted in corresponding quinazolin-2,4-dione derivatives incorporating eight-membered nitrogen-heterocycles -.

This study presents a novel synthesis method of N,N,N-trimethyl chitosan (TMC) by using a non-nucleophilic base and optimizing the solvent system for enhanced scalability, while addressing critical factors such as viscosity management and stirring efficiency. The study objectives also included achieving high N,N,N-trimethylation without O-methylation while minimizing reagent use. Eight bases, three solvent systems, and varying levels of dilution were explored to mitigate viscosity challenges and gas evolution.

Formic and acetic acids are the most abundant gaseous organic acids and play the key role in the atmospheric chemistry. In iodine-adduct chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS), the low utilization efficiency of methyl iodide and humidity interference are two major issues of the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) lamp initiated CIMS for on-line gaseous formic and acetic acids analysis. In this work, we present a new CIMS based on VUV lamp, and the ion-molecular reactor is separated into photoionization and chemical ionization zones by a reducer electrode.

We present a highly efficient approach to directly and reliably simulate photodissociation followed by Coulomb explosion of methyl iodide. In order to achieve statistical reliability, more than 40 000 trajectories are calculated on accurate potential energy surfaces of both the neutral molecule and the doubly charged cation. Non-adiabatic effects during photodissociation are treated using a Landau-Zener surface hopping algorithm.

Real-time detection of intermediate species and final products at the surface and near-surface in interfacial solid-gas reactions is critical for an accurate understanding of heterogeneous reaction mechanisms. In this article, an experimental method that can simultaneously monitor the ultrafast dynamics at the surface and above the surface in photoinduced heterogeneous reactions is presented. This method relies on a combination of mass spectrometry and femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy.
