Formalin is a widely used fixative but there is potential public health risks to exposure. Besides, alcoholic fixation is advantageous over formalin fixation because of faster fixation, optimal preservation and safer workplace environment. Following fixation by EMA and 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF), we analyzed the tissue morphology, antigenic stability, DNA and RNA quantity with quality (OD value). The findings of EMA fixing on both the tissue morphology and molecular characterization, were satisfactory. Specially, EMA was faster in penetration of tissues than NBF, fixed ideally as early as 8 h of fixation whereas improper fixation was evident for NBF. In Hematoxylin and Eosin (H & E) staining, better cellular details with stronger affinity for staining were observed. In immunohistochemistry, better antigenic stability was reported for EMA-fixed tissues. The nucleic acid analysis revealed that total genomic DNA and RNA yield from EMA fixed tissues were significantly higher () with superior quality than NBF fixed tissues. Our results suggest that EMA could be a potential alternative to NBF for fixation and preservation of tissues. These data provide new insights into an option for a safer working environment to support study and research.

Aims: Exposure to alcohol marketing is associated with higher alcohol consumption. In recent years, a growing number of modern labels have appeared on alcohol bottles. Unlike traditional labels that typically convey factual details about a product, such as product type, quality, origin, and brewery creation date, modern labels are designed to create an imaginary, often quirky universe that is disconnected from the product itself.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study with female A/J mice, VC injection led to severe kidney damage resembling human membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, indicating potential renal risks associated with these compounds.
  • * RNA-Seq analysis revealed significant changes in gene expression related to the complement and coagulation pathways, highlighting a dysregulated immune response with key complement factors being altered, suggesting that exposure to EC and VC may disrupt normal kidney function.

Aims: Previous neuroimaging research in alcohol use disorder (AUD) has found altered functional connectivity in the brain's salience, default mode, and central executive (CEN) networks (i.e. the triple network model), though their specific associations with AUD severity and heavy drinking remains unclear.

Treatment of mid-shaft fractures of both forearm bones in adults typically consists of individual plate fixation of each bone according to AO principles. The primary objective of this multicentre retrospective study was to identify predictive and prognostic factors of failed bone union after internal fixation with a standard plate in adults. 130 mid-shaft fractures of both forearms occurred in 92 men and 38 women, who had a mean age of 35.
