Motivated by the fact that the drying time of respiratory droplets is related to the spread of COVID-19 [R. Bhardwaj and A. Agrawal, "Likelihood of survival of coronavirus in a respiratory droplet deposited on a solid surface," Phys. Fluids , 061704, (2020)], we analyze the drying time of droplets ejected from a COVID-19 infected subject on surfaces of personal protection equipment (PPE), such as a face mask, of different wettabilities. We report the ratio of drying time of the droplet on an ideal superhydrophobic surface (contact angle, → 180°) to an ideal hydrophilic surface ( → 0°) and the ratio of the maximum to minimum drying time of the droplet on the surfaces with different contact angles. The drying time is found to be maximum if = 148°, while the aforementioned ratios are 4.6 and 4.8, respectively. These ratios are independent of the droplet initial volume, ambient temperature, relative humidity, and thermophysical properties of the droplet and water vapor. We briefly examine the change in drying time in the presence of impurities on the surface. Besides being of fundamental interest, the analysis provides insights that are useful while designing the PPE to tackle the present pandemic.

This study introduces a novel bilayer wound dressing that integrates a quaternized chitosan-polyacrylic acid (QCs-PAA) sponge as the top layer with electrospun nanofibers containing curcumin as the bottom layer. For the first time, QCs and PAA were combined in an 80:20 ratio through freeze-drying to form a porous sponge layer with ideal structural properties, including 83 ± 6 % porosity and pore diameters of 290 ± 12.5 μm.

The traditional foams can only block heat loss, and cannot effectively store and release heat energy on demand to extend the insulation time. In this work, the paraffin-rich monolayer microcapsules were prepared using negatively charged phosphorylated cellulose nanofibers (CNF) as the emulsifier of Pickering emulsion. The positive chitosan was assembled on the surface of the monolayer microcapsules through an electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly method to prepare the bilayer microcapsules.

Bulk-fill, monochromatic, and ORMOCER composites were introduced in restorative dentistry with the aim of reducing clinical time and/or alleviating contraction stresses at the interface between the tooth and restoration. While the conversion and immediate properties of these materials are comparable to conventional composites, studies evaluating their long-term properties and the structure of the polymer matrix are lacking. The objective of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion and, indirectly, the crosslink density of conventional, bulk-fill, monochromatic, and ORMOCER resin composites.

The Asian malaria vector is invading Africa, requiring it to adapt to novel climates and ecosystems. In part, this may be facilitated by 's poorly understood seasonal behavioural plasticity in flight timing, leading to earlier biting activity in cold Asian winters and later biting times in the warm summer. Changes in behavioural timing could be directly imposed by seasonal variation in ambient light and temperature levels or result from altered entrainment of intrinsically expressed circadian rhythms by these factors.

Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining is widely used to stain osteoclasts in histological bone sections. The red dye formed by the conventional TRAP enzymatic reaction using naphthol AS-MX (or AS-BI) phosphate and fast red-violet (or garnet) chromogens is readily soluble in alcohol or xylene and requires air-drying prior to cover slipping or the use of an aqueous mounting medium. However, the use of an aqueous mounting medium makes it difficult to store stained specimens for a long time.
