This article describes the effect of non-stabilized magnetic particles FeO (nanoparticles aggregates) addition to the aqueous phase of the polarized liquid-liquid interface (LLI) on the interfacial ion transfer processes. LLI was formed between 1,2-dichloroethane and water solutions (1,2 DCE)|water. The synthesis of FeO magnetic particles (MPs) was achieved by the co-precipitation method, after which their appearance, size of aggregates, and zeta potential were assessed.

A 38-year-old man developed headache, dysarthria and dysphasia after insufflation of cocaine. Brain imaging showed multiple white matter lesions, suggesting acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), but the clinical features were atypical for demyelination. These lesions may represent a levamisole-associated vascular endotheliopathy, with a mechanism similar to posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome.

We describe the case of a 27-year-old male, previously healthy though with a social history notable for recreational cocaine use, who developed bone marrow failure due to aplastic anemia (AA) with associated serous fat atrophy (SFA). After the SFA was corrected with nutritional supplementation, the patient underwent successful allogeneic, haploidentical stem cell transplantation with a regimen designed to treat AA. To our knowledge, this is the first case of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) performed following correction of SFA.

Article Synopsis
  • Cocaine use can lead to serious health issues, including strokes and a rare condition called cocaine-induced multiple leukoencephalopathy.
  • An 18-year-old woman, with no prior health issues, experienced this condition after using cocaine and was treated with intravenous methylprednisolone, showing some improvement.
  • Recent findings suggest that levamisole, a common adulterant found in cocaine, may also contribute to the development of multiple leukoencephalopathy.

Article Synopsis
  • - Levamisole is an immunomodulator used effectively to treat nephrotic syndrome due to its ability to stimulate the immune system and reduce the need for steroids.
  • - While commonly associated with gastrointestinal symptoms and fever, levamisole can also cause serious side effects like agranulocytosis and pancytopenia.
  • - A case report highlights a 5-year-old girl with steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome who experienced declining leukocyte counts after starting levamisole, stressing the importance of monitoring for this rare but serious complication.
