Decay of self-incompatibility within a lifespan in Physalis acutifolia (Solanaceae).

Plant Reprod

January 2025

Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Colorado, 1900 Pleasant Street, Boulder, CO, 80309, USA.

Self-incompatibility decays with age in plants of Physalis acutifolia, and plants that have transitioned to selfing produce fewer seeds but with comparable viability. Self-compatibility in this system is closely related to flower size, which is in turn dependent on the direction of the cross, suggesting parental effects on both morphology and compatibility. The sharpleaf groundcherry, Physalis acutifolia, is polymorphic for self-compatibility, with naturally occurring self-incompatible (SI) and self-compatible (SC) populations.

Standardised activities in wheelchair rugby, comparison between athletes with coordination impairment and athletes with other impairments.

Front Sports Act Living

January 2025

Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport, School of Sport, Exercise, and Health Sciences, Loughborough University, Loughborough, United Kingdom.

Introduction: To determine if athletes with coordination impairment (CI) can continue playing wheelchair rugby (WR), while an evidence-based classification system, including impairment tests for CI is not yet available. This is a defensible practise if they show similar activity limitations as athletes with other eligible impairment types (OI) within the same sports class.

Methods: Standardised activities were measured in 58 elite WR athletes; 14 with CI and 44 with OI.

Objectives: The literature shows connections between maternal depression, children's executive function (EF), and emotional overeating (EOE). This study examined the interplay between maternal postpartum depression, EF, and EOE. We hypothesized that higher levels of postpartum depression would lead to lower inhibition and emotional control and higher levels of EOE.

The intricate morphology, physicochemical properties, and interacting proteins of lipid droplets (LDs) are associated with cell metabolism and related diseases. To uncover these layers of information, a solvatochromic and photosensitized LDs-targeted probe based on the furan-based D-D-π-A scaffold is developed to offer the following integrated functions. First, the turn-on fluorescence of the probe upon selectively binding to LDs allows for direct visualization of their location and morphology.

Cholestasis is a multifactorial hepatobiliary disorder, characterized by obstruction of bile flow and accumulation of bile, which in turn causes damage to liver cells and other tissues. In severe cases, it can result in the development of life-threatening conditions, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. Paeoniflorin (PF) has been demonstrated to possess favourable therapeutic potential for the treatment of cholestasis.
