Patients with RR (n=45) and SP (n=24) types of multiple sclerosis (MS) were analyzed using original Luria neuropsychological battery. On the basis of the results obtained, the general characteristics of neuropsychological syndromes were determined: asthenic manifestations; certain violations of the auditory-speech memory; decreased visual memory; disorders of interhemispheric somatosensory transfer; violations of the simultaneous factor of the mental activity organization. It is shown that the progressive type of MS is characterized by a significantly greater degree of severity of the above disorders, as well as their certain qualitative features: a wider range of mnestic disorders; the presence of disturbances in the interhemispheric transfer of motor information; the presence of violations of the assessment of rhythmic sequences by ear; the presence of visual-constructive activity disorders. The factors that determine the neuropsychological syndrome structure in both categories of patients include: the activation factor associated with the work of nonspecific brain systems at all levels of organization, the factor of the simultaneous organization of mental activity associated with the work of the parietotemporal-occipital parts of the cerebral cortex, the factor of interhemispheric interaction. The qualitative differences between the groups of patients consist in the different influence of these factors on the formation of the structure of disorders.

Combination therapy, which synergistically enhances treatment efficacy and inhibits disease progression through the combined effects of multiple drugs, has emerged as a mainstream approach for treating complex diseases and alleviating symptoms. However, drug-drug interactions (DDIs) can sometimes lead to adverse reactions, potentially endangering lives. Therefore, developing efficient and accurate DDI prediction methods is crucial for elucidating drug mechanisms and preventing side effects.

The nutria (Myocastor coypus) is a semiaquatic rodent that originally inhabited South America. However, the animals have spread to different continents as alien species, and their numbers are quickly increasing, especially in North America, Europe, and Eastern Asia including Japan. Although nutrias have been suggested to serve as reservoirs for pathogens, including parasites, there have been few reports on this subject.

Effect of transgene on salt tolerance of tobacco.

Transgenic Res

January 2025

Forest Department, College of Forestry, Hebei Agricultural University, Baoding, 071000, China.

To explore the effects of salt-tolerance gene accumulation on salt tolerance in transgenic plant, we used four types of plant expression vector (N27, N28, N29, and N30) carrying mtlD, mtlD + gutD, mtlD + gutD + BADH, mtlD + gutD + BADH + sacB genes respectively, to transform tobacco through Agrobacterium-mediated method. Transgenic lines were identified through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection. Transgenic lines and non-transgenic plant (CK) were subjected to 6‰ sodium chloride solution stress; then, fluorescence quantitative PCR (FQ-PCR) and salt tolerance indexes were used to assess characteristics.

The ICH E9 addendum on estimands in clinical trials provides a framework for precisely defining the treatment effect that is to be estimated, but says little about estimation methods. Here, we report analyses of a clinical trial in type 2 diabetes, targeting the effects of randomized treatment, handling rescue treatment and discontinuation of randomized treatment using the so-called hypothetical strategy. We show how this can be estimated using mixed models for repeated measures, multiple imputation, inverse probability of treatment weighting, G-formula, and G-estimation.

Our understanding of the meningeal immune system has recently burgeoned, particularly regarding how innate and adaptive effector cells are mobilized to meet brain challenges. However, information on how meningeal immunocytes guard brain homeostasis in healthy individuals remains limited. This study highlights the heterogeneous, polyfunctional regulatory T cell (T) compartment in the meninges.
