Background: Obesity is a worldwide public health problem characterized by fat tissue accumulation, favouring adipose tissue and metabolic alterations. Increasing energy expenditure (EE) through brown adipose tissue activation and white adipose tissue (WAT) browning has gained relevance as a therapeutic approach. Different bioactive compounds, such as n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), have been shown to induce those thermogenic effects. This process is regulated by the gut microbiota as well. Nevertheless, obesity is characterized by gut microbiota dysbiosis, which can be restored by weight loss and n-3 PUFA intake, among other factors. Knowledge gap: However, the role of the gut microbiota on the n-3 PUFA effect in inducing thermogenesis in obesity has not been fully elucidated.

Objective: This review aims to elucidate the potential implications of this interrelation on WAT browning adiposw sittue (BAT), BAT activity, and EE regulation in obesity models.

Department of Pediactrics, The Children's Obesity Clinic, Accredited European Centre for Obesity Management, Copenhagen University Hospital Holbæk, Holbæk, Denmark.

Steatotic liver disease (SLD) represents a multisystem disease and is a common complication of childhood obesity. We studied fat content at the abdominal level (liver, subcutaneous, and visceral) and the response to childhood obesity management. In this retrospective longitudinal study, 8-18-year-olds with a body mass index (BMI) z-score above 1.

Background: The stromal vascular fraction (SVF) of adipose tissue has now been widely used in plastic surgeries, clinical trials and therapies. However, the cell composition of SVF undergoes dynamic changes during aging and obesity, which may influence the efficacy of the SVF. This study analyzed the effects of age, harvest site and body mass index on the cell composition of the SVF.

Fibrous dysplasia is a slow-progressing benign condition characterized by abnormal bone formation that leads to some skeletal disorders. Although some of the fibrous dysplasia have unusual clinical and radiographic features that can lead to a challenging diagnosis, most lesions reveal an expansile bone defect due to cortex thinning. This report presented a case of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of a 43-year-old woman with involvement of the right maxillary jaw and sinuses, which indicated unusual histopathological features.

Production of alternative proteins is crucial for the development of future protein resources. This study explored the creation of sustainable animal resources by combining extrusion molding and three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies. Extrusion effectively organizes vegetable proteins at high temperatures and pressures to replicate meat-like textures, and high-moisture extrusion successfully mimics the fiber structure of conventional meat.

Due to its unique structure, articular cartilage has limited self-repair capacity. Microtissues are tiny tissue clusters that can mimic the function of target organs or tissues. Using cells alone for microtissue construction often results in the formation of necrotic cores.
