Cadmium is a notorious toxic heavy metal, that poses serious threat to human health. Sensitive and selective detection of cadmium in cells is of great significance in poison screening and disease diagnosis. Orange-red emissive carbon dots (OR-CDs), prepared from the calcination of selected carbon sources 5-amino-1, 10-phenanthroline (Aphen) and salicylic acid (SA), were found to act as a "turn on" type fluorescence probe for Cd detection. The structure and optical properties of OR-CDs were comprehensively investigated by both experimental characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The OR-CDs consist of a basic unit of nine aromatic rings, and the N/O binding sites on the OR-CDs can specifically bind with Cd, leading to aggregation induced enhanced emission (AIEE). A detection limit of 0.30 μM was achieved for Cd with a linear range of 0.80-100 μM. OR-CDs can not only be used for intracellular Cd imaging but also have the potential to alleviate cadmium poison in living organisms.

In a search for dyes photoactivatable with visible light, fluorenes with substituents at positions 2 and 7 were prepared, and their absorption and emission spectra were studied. In particular, the synthesis route to 9-diazofluorenes with 2-(N,N-dialkylamino) and N-modified 7-(4-pyridyl) substituents was established. These compounds are initially non-fluorescent, undergo photolysis with UV or blue light, and-in non-polar media-provide orange- to red-emitting products with a large separation between absorption and emission bands.

Mn-doped luminescent materials play a significant role in a variety of fields, including modern lighting, displays, and imaging. Mn exhibits a broad and adjustable emission, hinging on the local environment of the crystal field and the interaction of the 3d electrons. However, it is still a challenge to realize the precise control of the emission of Mn ions due to site-prior occupation in a specific lattice.

The relationship between human health and patulin (PAT) in the diet is a complex and intertwined one. The development of a sensing approach for the field detection of patulin is crucial, as the current approach lacks real-time detection capabilities and is costly in terms of material and technology. This paper presents a portable ratiometric fluorescence sensor that can be used to rapidly, accurately, and efficiently detect patulin in food items at the point of origin.

In this study, a supramolecular fluorescent material was constructed by using double-cavity twisted cucurbit[14]uril (tQ[14]) and positively charged Astrazon Pink FG (APFG) based on the non-covalent host-guest interaction for the first time. The thermodynamic parameters of the APFG@tQ[14] in aqueous solution were determined by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), the results indicated that the spontaneous assembly of APFG@tQ[14] is mainly driven by enthalpy. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect induced the APFG@tQ[14] probe to emit a strong orange-red fluorescence.

The preparation of new phosphor with outstanding luminescent properties for white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) is consistently a challenging. Here in the present study, A novel white-emitting chloropatite phosphor Ca(PO)Cl:Eu was synthesized via the pechini sol gel synthesis with citric acid and polyethylene glycol (PEG) acid as a fuel at 850 °C systematically investigating the impact of doping concentration and synthesis temperature on both photoluminescence properties and crystal phase. The structural characteristics and crystalline nature of the prepared sample were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra.
